Question about Acer Aspire 4315 Notebook

2 Answers

My Aspire 4315 constantly loses it's wireless connection. It will connect with full connectivity, but drop it after a few minutes. It's the only laptop in my office that I have this issue. What steps can I take to ensure it's not a hardware issue?

kirankshk, thank you for your response, but none of these options helped.

    1) There were no power cables interfering with the wireless signal.

    2) All modem signals in my office building are password encrypted and not as strong as mine, so it would not be trying to bounce from one to another.

    3) I have the Actiontec MI424WR router/modem combo, and my driver is the most current.

    4) I was only 5 feet from my router, plus I moved within 2 feet of it just to be sure. I also plugged in using an ethernet cable and had a consistent excellent signal.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

There are a number of things that can cause this. The most common as as follows.

1) Either your computer or wireless modem is being effected by mains interference. Make sure that all power cables are clear of your modem and computer, except those essential to run the units.

2) Your computer is picking up another local wireless modem signal on the same channel. Try changing channels.

3) Your modem drivers need updating. Visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver.

4) Your computer is too far away from your wireless modem.

There are numerous other reasons, but it is worth trying the obvious first. The most common of all is mains or power cable interference.

If you are using WPA encryption for your wireless connection, try changing your router to WEP encryption for the wireless security. Try connecting again and see if there are any more issues.

Can't connect to internet with built in wireless

Do you have Windows XP, and did you install Service Pack 3? If so, you may need to go to the wireless card's manufacturer's site and download an updated driver (or if not available, reinstall the original driver). SP3 puts in a file that is incompatible with many wireless cards.

Try to change the channels on the router manager page
and see whether the signal strength increases or not
Make sure there are no electrical apllainces kept near to the router like micowave oven , music system speakers or any halogen lam which could create any kind of electrical interference with the router due to which the wireless signals are dropping out

Dropping Connection

This link indicates there may be an issue with hiding the SSID in the wireless router. A security item employed by some users. IF this is the case consider broadcasting the SSID and employing WEP or WPA encryption in the wireless configuration for both the router and the adapter cards to secure the wireless connections..
