I have a Simpletech signature mini 250GB external hard drive. Lately, it has been incredibly slow, and transferring files has been impossible. When I plug it in to a usb 2.0 port, it will take 4 hours to transfer 512 MB. yes, that is MB. I have tried 4 different cords, same result. The oddest thing is on a friends PC it transferred files fine, no problems. When i tried another portable HD on my PC it worked fine, in all the USB ports. I recently upgraded to windows 7 from Vista, but can find nothing about new drivers for the device that might be an issue. Could there be some underlying compatibility problem? I have had this same HD work for a year on this PC no problem til recently. Thanks for your help!
Not exactly a solution but I have had the same problem with one of these Simple Tech Signature Mini 320's for a while. Real finicky. Will only be recognized on direct connected to MB USB ports and even then with Win 7 or XP I get the "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port." no matter what ports I connect it to. While having this issue on this "main" computer I have previously connected it to some other computer (don't remember which, now) and it connected at 2.0 speed. What's going on??
