Question about Kichler TRANSFORMERS - PROFESSIONAL SERIES - 15PR200-SS - Stainless Steel

Open Question

I have a 3-year old kichler transformer (model # k15pr600ss). Outdoor low-voltage lights are not working. Checked electric lines with voltage meter; power is going to transformer, but not leaving it. It's my understanding this professional series has a lifetime warranty.

This is all the info I could find on it for you. I hope this will help.

SOURCE: I have a Kichler 300

Kitchler 15531 has a Grasslin 24-hour FM1 timer module.
Open following links:

NOTE: View back of timer module to get voltage.
Take photo of wiring before disconnecting.
Kitchler timer does not have the override.
For example 120Volt 24-hour without override and without battery back-up is FM1STUZ-120U

FM1STUZ-120U $55 at Intermatic:
FM1STUZ-120U $33 at 1000 bulbs

Schematic malibu 8100-9120-01

I don't think they post schematic for the transformer
But generally, the primary coil receives 120Volt AC input from household electrical outlet
And the secondary coil produces 12Volt AC output for the low voltage lights.
The 'coil' is a coil of insulated wire wrapped around a metal core. Two coils set side by side create a transformer... when primary is energized, the secondary responds to the magnetic field caused by primary core... resulting in a current that flows on the secondary coil.
Output voltage on secondary coil is determined by the number of wraps and diameter of wire.

Some transformers offer a choice of secondary output... Kichler for example... you can select 12-13-14-15 Volt AC output
This is achieved by the way the secondary coil is wrapped.... for less voltage a wire is tapped at one point on the coil... for more voltage, a wire is tapped at another point on coil. This gives the user several wire choices to connect the lights.

My Icon bathroom fan does not work by timer I have changed timer , transformer and electrics have been checked (with certificate) What next !

Which timer do your have?
Not all timers work with fan motors?
Are you adding a new bath fan? Or are you installing a new timer?

What transformer what checked? A transformer is used to change voltage. For example you can plug a Malibu outdoor-light transformer into ordinary 120V outlet and the transformer changes voltage to 12 volts so you can safely operate lights stuck into the ground around bushes. Or your phone recharges using transformer that converts ordinary 120Volt into very low voltage entering your phone.
Practically every electronic device in your home has a transformer ... microwave, TV, computer ... but I don't know why a bath fan would have a transformer.

I have a kichler 15pl300 where it does not transform from 120 Volts coming and it does not want to send out 12 V on the other side. The 120 volts has confirmed for be live.

I have been unable to locate manual for Kitchler low voltage products.
The troubleshoot page says check on-off switch, and put black tape over photoeye for two minutes, but does not elaborate on what to do.

1) Kitchler e-mail and contact information:

I would like to purchase a transformer that goes to 50% lighting after scheduled full brightness timed hours. Unit needs to have phoot sensor so it shuts down completely at daybreak. Do you have a unit to...

I don't know of a timer that matches.
Add a comment with photo of your old timer
Include as much information as possible.
Is this low voltage? What brand, etc? What does timer control?

Intermatic makes low voltage, so does Kitchler.
I don't know much about Kitchler brand.

I have a Model ml 44t, when the temp outside became cooler my timer would not turn on the lights, it would stop rotating at the red post.

-I think your outdoor plug is connected to GFI plug in bathroom or kitchen >>> check reset on GFI.
-Next, plug your hair dryer into same outdoor plug to see if plug has electricity >>> electrical plugs outside wear out quicker, and get loose wires.
-Move timer cord to the other plug
-I don't know if a bit of WD 40 would help or not .... couldn't hurt to spry some on the pins at this point ...UNPLUG timer because WD is very flammable...
-Tips from manual mention checking for burned out bulbs ... I've seen that mentioned other places and don't know if bulb problems shorten life of low-volt transformer inside the box.
-I worked with timers for years, and never seen replacement clocks or transformers for Malibu-type timers
-Timers located outside get damp and dirty ... these things cause small gears inside timers to oxidize and clog so they don't work after a while ... again, a bit of WD-40 might help

Tips copied from manual:
• Make sure power pack is plugged in. Is outlet working?
• Turn manual ON/OFF switch to "ON" or rotate dial so "ON" tripper passes time line indicator.
• Is lamp burned out? Use another lamp to test.
NOTE: This lighting system is designed to last many years under normal conditions. However, lamps eventually burn out and operating with one lamp out can shorten the life of the others. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REPLACE BURNED OUT LAMPS PROMPTLY.
Conditions beyond your control such as abnormally high household voltage due to poor utility voltage regulation will also affect lamp life.

The timer has 1 year warranty.

Thermostat wires dead

If you have a split system (an air handler that blows air into your house and an outdoor unit that has the compressor and condenser coil/fan), then you should look in the electrical compartment of your indoor unit and see if you can locate a low voltage fuse. This is usually located on the control board or between the transformer and "R". Make sure you shut off the power to your indoor unit first as they will still be 240volts available there. If the fuse is blown, replace it and reinstall your thermostat. Turn the power back on. If the thermostat is wired properly with no damaged wires in the process, the system should work fine.
If there is NO fuse, then check the low voltage side of your transformer using a Voltmeter. You will have to have the power on to perform this test. Be very careful. On one side of the transformer, you will read 240volts. The other side should read 24 volts. If there is no voltage on the 24volt side, you blew the transformer and will need to replace it.
Check these items first. If you need further assistance, let us know and we will dig a lil' deeper. :-)
24%20v%20transformer.jpgpicture of a typical transformer.

The low voltage fuse could be a glass cartridge fuse (systems typically older than 15 - 20 years old). Newer systems use the same style fuses that are used in your truck or car (ATC type).
