Hello bornfree_c60,

This is most likely because your graphics card does not support a higher resolution. The best possible solution for this is to replace the card with a newer one.

Choose a PCI or AGP slot graphics car, depending on the slots available on the motherboard. You can find some decent cards HERE or HERE. Choose one based on your budget and how much memory you need on the card.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved. If it isn't, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! or Helpful rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Install the video driver

Hi There,

If you are not able to move your screen pixel that mean your system run without VGA or Video driver, install the VGA driver and that you move your screen pixels.

Thanks

How to set your Desktop Screen Resolution?

Greetings, Welcome to Fixya!
So you need to adjust your Desktop Screen Resolution ey!!! It's a good thing you visited as today we are going to discuss just that.
We will be using our monitor to it's full potential, which will ensure we see the best picture our monitor can provide.

Follow the steps below:

1.)Right click on your desktop screen.
2.)A rectangular menu box appears.
3.)Select Properties, found right at the bottom of the menu box.
4.)Select the Settings Tab, found on the top right hand side of the window.
5.)On the bottom left hand side you will notice a slider bar under the heading Screen Resolution.
6.)Move this slider to the left to decrease the Screen resolution, less detailed, move the slider to the right to increase the Screen Resolution, more detailed.
7.)Ensure that the colour quality is set to highest, to give a more detailed and clearer picture!

Below: The window, see the slider bar on the bottom left and the colour quality on the right!

That should do the trick!
Now you will enjoy all the detailed, crisp, goodness that your monitor has to offer.

I know how to change the resoultion on a HP pavillion 504n but when i get to the slider it wont move its on 640 by 480 pixels how can I change it?

If the slider will not move, your monitor may not be capable of accepting the higher resolution. Check the kind of color you are using, medium, true of highest.

Tell me what you find ...

8/11/09:My monitor is jumping down by the tool bar, this just started a few days ago

I'm not sure that I understand what "jumping down" means, but it sounds like the video resolution does not match your monitor.
  1. Right-click anywhere in an empty area on your desktop and choose "Properties".
  2. Go to the "Settings" tab.
  3. Lower the screen resolution (the slider on the left side) until it fits your screen.
You might want to check if your video driver is appropriate for your monitor.
If the max resolution your monitor can handle is i.e. 1600x1200 pixels and your setting shows 1920x1200 pixels, you will only see part of your desktop and have to move the mouse around to get to the "hidden" sections.

If you have any more questions or your problem was different from what I assumed, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Everything on my compaq presario cq50-215nr laptop got really big after i accidentally hit a couple of buttons on the keyboard and i dont know what i hit. how do i make them go back to normal size

Choose Screen Resolution For higher legibility of documents on screen, you can adjust the screen resolution of your monitor (for monitors that support more than one screen resolution option). The higher the number of pixels, the more information you can display on your screen and the smaller items appear. Lower screen resolution makes items appear larger and can benefit people with vision impairments. This procedure tells you how to adjust screen resolution through Display Properties in Control Panel.
Mouse actions Keyboard actions 1 On the Start menu:
  • Select Control Panel
Display the Start menu by pressing CTRL+ESC (or the Windows logo key winkey.gif).
  • Select Control Panel by pressing C.
2 In Control Panel:
  • Be sure you are in Classic View (all Control Panel icons are showing).
  • If not, under Control Panel in the left pane, select Switch to Classic View.
  • Select Display.

Computer moniter

Press F8 during startup to show the boot options. Boot to VGA mode (if available) or safe mode and change your resolution in windows to the recommended 1280X1080. To do this in XP just right click on the desktop and select 'properties', click on the right-most tab and move the slider.

In Vista this would be right-click desktop, select 'personalise', click 'display settings' and move slider.

Hope this helps,

erch.
