The TV itself does not turn on at all and my eletronics teacher believes it to be the 5 volt regulator and i just didn't know where it was at because we don't have a schematic for it. So yea right now the tv does not even turn on and my teacher can't be completely sure what the problem is until we can fix the 5 volt problem so thank you for your suggestion and i will try it here in the next couple of days when i get back to school to where the tv is at.

The main power supply regulator board fault. It will be best to replace the power board as card basis rather than trying to repair it. Because, in most cases repair work on this board will be a failure, especially to Plasma displays. If you wish to get more details visit the site linked here. It will help you to an extent, I beleve. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Faults of many popular brand sets are given.
Your Problem is the Hot transistor, it is short circuit. Causing the tv to go into protection. I f you say this is the second time the same problem tell the technician who works on the tv to replace all the caps on the collector of the Transistor and check the lopttransformercausing the HOT transisistor to fail thank you
Most units have a 1 year warranty, so be careful in opening up the unit. That being said, the protect message indicates that there is a problem in the final output stage of the amplifier. This can be as simple as a poor connection at the voltage regulators that will force the unit into an offset condition or more complex like shorted output transistors. and drivers. Since this unit is still relatively new, I would suggest that you investigate its warranty status first. Let me know what you intend to do.
Sounds like the 5 volt supply is low, Look for the 5 volt regulator, Measure you can go directly to the sensor 3 pins 1 will be 0 volts one will have 5 volts the other is usually a fluctuating 3-5 volts if 1 pin has to have 5 volts if it is low check capacitors around the 5 volt regulator probably 47uf to 100uf look for rusty look on the leads. If you see it change it! check these voltages with set turned off ( standby ) do not attempt if you dont know what your doing. Good luck. The reason it works when it is on is because there is a run 5 volt supplement.
Check for DC output at D653, if you have voltage there find Q682 and measure the voltage at the emitter. You should get 5 volts.
Just a question, if you are missing the 5 volts; do you have any other functions on the TV not working?
1) Unplug wire harnesses = pull chassis ( requires 2 chassis bolt
removal)
2) Dis-mount Convergence / power supply board = the one with
large heatsink
3) Locate 5 volt regulators mounted to heatsink
4) Remove old solder from pins of all four regulators =
Re-solder + solder any / all bad conncts on board....
5) Replace bad 4 amp fuse hidden in power supply area...
6) Reassemble
Is a good thing the main fuse is not open, your problem is in the power supply ,as I understand you have no indication of power(no lights,No clicks)The 5 volts that power the microprocessor might be missing, this 5 volts usually come from a regulator, this regulator should have 12 volts in one side and the 5 volts in the other, the 12 volts come from the secondary of a transformer and it has its own fusible resistor,if the resistor is open is because the regulator is shorted and it need to be replaced. This is a good place to check.Be careful when checking this parts. If you are not too familiar with tv service seek the assistance of a servicer,it should not be too expensive.
