You have some ink spillage somewhere. Clean all the rollers and paper path where there is any ink. Then run cleaning cycle to clear the heads.

Smudge line on side of page
Smudges are most likely from the toner cartridge. If you can take your finger and run over the print and it smudges, then it is the fuser.

I'm getting black smudge marks on copies. After
I also had this issue, waste tone was comming from the transfer belt, had a good clean out been good for months now.

Printer is printing two smudge marks on my documents.
Two parts of the printer can affect this.
1) the toner cartridge
2) the fuser

Testing can be done to determine the problematic part.

Do a print using manual feed. Once the last bit of paper goes into the machine, open the printer door.
Remove the toner to check if smudge is there.
Replace toner cartridge if there is smudge, replace fuser it not.

Most likely cause by the drum unit. Replace drum or upgrade printer.

Too much toner on paper which then smudges
Try reducing the print resolution using the menu buttons. Does it smudge with coloured prints? If so then the fuser unit is faulty. If it is only black that smudges it is likely to be the K Developer unit. Ensure that you are using genuine toners, not refills or third party as the quality of toner can cause similar results.

You have mentioned this is a 2nd hand printer,
you have to service the printer,(fuser unit)
if the problem exists after fuser service check Laser Scanner also,

Black ink smudges for color print mode only, not for grayscale
- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.
