Question about iRiver E10 Digital Media Player

Emergency usb mode

Black screen saying player update required... please refer to the manual, or emergency usb, bottom right corner - v1.40.Not responding to any buttons.

    Given that the device is not rsponded on any button, the only way to turn it off is to remove the build-in battery. Should I do this?

    Yes, I have tried to connect to usb but the device was not recognized by my PC as a separate external drive. I also have tried to initialize the device by following the manual's recommendation but got an error msg stated that initializing is faled.
    Please advice further...

    Thank you for the possible error reasons (pos. 1, 2).
    If you have any other professional recommendations rather than to return the device to the manufacture with the potential prospective to wait for 3 + months - you'll be highly appreciated.

    I have unplugged the battery and after 45 min plugged it back. Unfortunately, I got the same picture: device icon on the display and then black screen saying player update required... please refer to the manual, Emergency usb, bottom right corner - v1.40.Not responding to any buttons.

    1. I bought this iriver e10 3 months ago, load some music and all this period of time the device did work perfectly. Before getting this error the device was not in use during ~ 10 days.
    2. Sure, I have tried to reset but every time, when I pressing the reset button, the device icon is appeared on the display, and then black screen saying "Player update required... Please refer to the manual" or "Emergency USB", bottom right corner - "v1.40". Device is not responding to any buttons.
    3. Attempts to initialize the device according to the manual's recommendation (via iriver plus 2) and unplugging the build-in battery for 45 min were also not successful.

    I have made it a few times but it still does not work.
    A couple of times the device has been recognized by my PC as a removable disk, I even was able to see the properties and driver for the device but it is not responded when I was trying to browse it. All time I see the black display with 'Emergency USB' and 'v1.40'.
    Looks like the device is dead.
    Thank you for your attempts to resolve my issue.

There are 2 conditions related to the e10 Emergency USB message.
1. If your PC does NOT recognise the iriver as a USB device, there is an issue with the Hard Drive.
2. If your PC DOES recognise the iriver as a USB device/drive and can read the files, there is an issue with the Circuitry in your e10.

In either case, your iriver needs to be returned to the manufacturer. If it's under warranty you can get this repaired at no cost (of course). This is a very common problem with these players. I hope your is still under warranty and you can get it repaired. Some people are saying they have been waiting for 3 months and iRiver still hasn't sent them there replacement.

    Sorry i couldn't help more.

    Depending on where you are you might be able to get it fixed really quickly.

    Since it's only 3 months old, i would let them repair it for sure.

Try to reset...as below
1. tunr it off
2. remove any power supply to the device including any battery.
3. leave it for about 30 minutes
4, tyrb ut ib again

Have you tried connecting the usb and loading an update on it at all?

    Yes, remove the battery, it should not harm the device and will most likely reset it and you should be able to be on your way and load the updates and have it fixed.

    What were you doing before getting this error? Possibly loading something?

    Should should try to press the reset button which is located right below the lock

    Try loading a new update on it again.

    Have your computer off and battery removed from the player

    Connect them together and put the battery in and turn it on and then turn on the computer and see if the computer recognizes the device and see if you can load a new update onto it.

    Alright here is the deal, IRiver does not have a location in New York, your best bet is to see if an electronics store like Best Buy, Circuit City, or Radio Shack can fix it or you can try sending it to the manufacturer if the above stores won't service it. So my advice is to call the above stores and any others that you know of in your area (I can find phone numbers but I think you can find them pretty quickly in the phone book otherwise) or I can get you the number for the manufacturer who should be able to fix it but then you will have to send it in for sure. Let me know what you want to do and I will help with what I can. Thank you

Hi,

Download and install lg phone drivers and the LG updater.
Now connect the phone to PC with a USB cable.
And launch the LG updater. This will fix your problem.

E10 Blackscreen


Looks lo\ike the OS crashed in the player. It is probably asking for a restore procedure. It is located on the CD or in the setup program that came wiht the Iriver.

E10 Problem


You need to upgrade the firmware by using iriver plus 3 in the 'tools' section it should have upgrade firmware.

Sounds like you either have a bad hard drive or some of the song files are corrupted.Have you gone into the "Emergency Connection" mode to reformat the player? Rest the player; if it's a 20gb stick a paper clip in the reset hole, on a 5 or 6gb remove and replace the battery. Then connect the player to the PC. Hold the enter button down when you turn it on, it should come on and read "emergency connection" at the top within a black band.
You must go to the iriver.com web site and download the firmware updater for your player. Her is the link; http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/hd/. Then select either the 5-6 or 20gb firmware. Run the firmware program while the player is in the "Emergency Connection" mode. You can also get the firmware upgrade info from iriver. That should solve your problems and in addition you will be getting the latest firmware.

Hi There,

There are 2 conditions related to the e10 Emergency USB message.

IRiver E10 Player update required


I took mine to JB Hi-Fi where I bought it from and they're sending it to the service centre for me ... if your 1 year standard warranty hasn't expired you can take it to the place you bought it from and they can ship it off for you and they log all your details and give you a number so you can call and check the status of the repairs ... that's the only thing that will solve the problem as far as I'm aware ... they need to actually replace parts in the iriver ...
