Well the battery is intended to be replaced by TomTom professionals, but you can change it yourself if you have the proper expertise, You can buy the spare battery from Ebay etc.

Power on the TT 910 and then press the Reset Button on the base of the TT. It is a tiny hole with a hidden button. use a rounded object, match end or soft pencil to puch the button. Then reconnect it to the PC and the PC will see the TT. Note that you may have to reload apps and maps depending on the state of the TT.

N4VMC asks, will dead internal battery prevent 910 from coming on when on external power?

Even with a dead battery it should come on when an external power is supplied. If it doesn't try doing a reset using a straightened paper clip.

Connecting GPS device to bike's electrical system

I misunderstood, I thought your battery was discharging DURING the ride. Put your meter in current mode. connect one lead to the battery and one lead to your TomTom wiring while the unit is in the cradle. How much current is is drawing? Now remove the TomTom from the cradle. Is it still drawing the same amount? If not, the TomTom is drawing power even while off and that is draining your battery.

What do you use to charge the tom tom 910 in the house

In the box you have a 'desktop' mount. Looks like the windscreen mount without the ******.
Also you will have got a mains power lead.
Plug the lead into the 'desktop mount' (Left hand side) of the stick up bit.
Plug in and put your 910 onto the mount. It will 'Click' into place
The green light will shine to show it's charging.

To release the unit from the mount PRESS in the button in the middle of the screen top rim and lift off.

Remember to turn of the power at the socket to stop wasting electricity

The usb part of the desktop mount goes into your pc so you can connect to TomTom home or just plain old 'back it up'
It is ok to have power switched on or off when connect to the pc, there is no need to unplug the jackplug.

Hope this helps

Check your battery symbol.
On mine, the battery is dead (or mechanically disconneced inside).
You need to reset the unit by pressing the tiny button on the back.
Problem is that when you remove the unit from the charging stand, the dead battery does not allow you to press the reset button. (Pressing the reset button with no battery cannot reset the unit)

IF you could press the reset button while plugged into the charger, you could get you unit working again. But..alas, the design of the unit prohibits you from doing so.

Chances are if you fix the battery problem, you will have a usable unit again.
