Word 2000, Mac OSX, print preview shows document that is justified right and left. Normal view is justified right and left. Print is only left justified. What's up.

I have many files that are both right and left justified, and they all print just as they show in the print preview window. So what is it in the Word software that is overriding what shows up in print preview? I don't really want to reload Word since it seems to work in every other case.

  • hmalchow Apr 25, 2008

To quote you, "What you get in print preview is what is going to be printed, this is normal."

Well what I get printed is not what is shown in print preview. The print preview is justified, the print is not.

I do not know if you understand your problem, description is quite confused. I undestood displayed document format is different from printout. This (if this is problem) happens often because many Word views display document with a different look from what you get in printout. In this case check that you have NORMAL selected under VIEW menu.

Note: you do not get right justified and left justified. Justified is just an alignment that is not left or right, is just distributing words evenly within borders. Common horizonatal alignment in Word are
Left, Right , Center Justified.

What you get in print preview is what is going to be printed, this is normal. Again:

check that you have NORMAL selected under VIEW menu

And get some tutorial, Word is not as simple as it can looks at first glance.

Follows some documentation

Check carefully that you have specified it to use the # 10 and that the format does not include a wide margin. If that fails, try printing the Return address 'right justified' and see what happens.

I can not scan from my HP Photosmart C7180 All in one. Mac OSX 10.6.8 I can copy, print but not scan.

Launch the OSX system preferences, click on the Print & Scan Icon located in the Hardware row, select your printer in the left hand column, click the Scan button above the right hand box, click on the Open Scanner button, a new window will open, click on the scan button in the upper right hand corner of that new window, set your document on the flat glass panel of your multi function printer/scanner, and click the scan button located in the lower right hand corner of the window, once scanning is complete, your document image should appear in a new window and save the image from there.

Check the settings in the "View" screen. Certain selection will not show the whole document but will print them out.
Go to full page view to see if that changes your page options.

Cannot compress a PDF

I assume you have tried the "reduce filesize" command. Try opening the file in Preview and print it - in the print dialog box select the pdf button, type a name and print. You get a file in the location you selected. This can reduce the size considerably.

Margins not recognised

Hi lerona - I have a 5600C series HP printer. You might try these tips:
Do a Print Preview to be sure the document looks right on your screen, then in Print Setup, down in the Zoom box check the Scale to Paper Size to be sure it isn't set for the wrong paper size. There's an arrow to scroll to the size you're printing on.

Then click Properties, then the Paper Quality tab. There's an item that says "minimize margins". You could try printing with the box checked (if it's not now), or unchecked (if it IS now) and see the difference. Click the Effects tab and be sure the "normal size" box says 100%, and that there's no check mark in the "borderless printing" box.

I print documents all the time, as well as photos, smaller sized items, cards, etc., and have had no trouble with the margins printing differently than my Print Preview shows on my screen. I hope these tips help you. Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any success with my suggestions.
