Power supply problem.... I can explain to you how to fix via email with detailed instruction and pics... Hope you haven't bought another as this is a 5-30 dollar fix. I have 2 50" that did this I fixed mine for 80 cents.
Marine on a mission to help ppl fix their spendy sets and not waste their time and money spending hundreds of dollars on a 2 dollar fix.......
Not only have I fixed 2. I've bought a few at rock bottom 125.-250. and fixed them for 40 sents.

Sounds like the power supply. The supply checks for all the various voltages to be there - if they are not it shuts down. It then tries again. So if you are hearing the click in/out of the PS relay that's where the trouble is. Before buying another PS at least disconnect the Ysus and Zsus suppy lines to make sure they are not pulling it down. If they aren't - it's the power supply. It's a complex board (PKG-4014) and if you ever get a diagram I love a copy - they are never in the manuals. Mine was one of the 3641 regulator chips. Hope this is of some help.

Testimonial: "most excellent. turned out to be the z-sus board!"
There is a power fault with one of the PCB's inside, contact Sony if you are still in warranty, if not contact a Sony service center as it will need an engineer to open it up to repair it.
