ARE YOU SURE THATS A CD WRITER NOT JUST A CD ROM. IF ITS A CD WRITER AND YOU ARE USING THE OS AS WINDOWS XP....JUST TRY SENDING THE FILE DIRECTLY TO THE BLANK CD IN THE DRIVE...IF IT BURNS THE CD WRITER IS OK AND THE APPLICATION (NERO OR WATEVER) YOU ARE USING TO BURN THE CD REQUIRES TO BE REINSTALLED

Cannot burn audio cd with iTunes

Maybe iTunes don't want your burning their music. I'm not sure cuz I don't use Itunes, but if it works on others that sounds like it might be the problem.

Here I found the below on Apple's site.

Symptoms Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
Resolution Update iTunes Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
Songs not authorized iTunes will stop burning a disc if one or more of the songs in a playlist were purchased from the iTunes Store but are not authorized to play on this computer. This message appears:
"Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below".

There's more so click the link below and see why you can't burn your cd.

How to Play iTunes Music on Windows Media Player

There's a good chance when you buy music from the iTunes Store that the files that you download will be copy protected by Apple's FairPlay DRM system. It's a great system that protects the rights of the artist and publisher by making it difficult for the consumer to distribute copyrighted material. However, DRM can also be very restrictive by stopping you playing legally purchased music on your MP3 compatible hardware. So, what happens if you want to play your DRM'ed music on a non-iPod?

This tutorial will show you a way to produce DRM-free music that doesn't require any special software that you would normally need to buy. All you'll need is the iTunes software, and a blank CD (preferably a rewritable (CD-RW)).

Before we begin, check for any updates that are available for your iTunes installation, or download the latest version from the iTunes website。

Configuring iTunes to burn and rip an audio CD

CD Burner Settings: In order to set up the iTunes software to burn an audio CD, you first need to go into the settings menu and select the correct disc format. To do this, click on the Edit tab on the main menu and select Preferences from the menu list. On the preferences screen, select the Advanced tab, followed by the Burning tab. First, make sure your CD burner is selected from the drop-down menu alongside the CD Burner option. Next, Select audio CD as the disc format that is to be written by your CD drive.

CD Import Settings: While you are still in the preferences menu, click on the Importing tab to access the CD ripping settings. Verify that the On CD Insert option is set to Ask to Import CD. Next, set the Import Using option to a format of your choice; the MP3 Encoder is your best choice if you want to import audio CDs as MP3 files that play on virtually all compatible devices. Choose an encoding bitrate from the Setting option; 128Kbps is the normal setting that is good enough for the average listener. And finally, make sure the Automatically Retrieve CD Track Names From Internet and Create File Names With Track Numbers and both checked. Click the OK button to save your settings.

Making a custom playlist

To be able to burn your DRM copy protected songs to audio CD you will need to make a custom playlist (File > New Playlist). You can add music tracks to a playlist easily by dragging and dropping them from your music library to your newly created playlist. For instructions on how to achieve this, why not follow our tutorial on How to Create a Custom Playlist Using iTunes.

While creating a playlist, make sure that the total playing time (displayed at the bottom of the screen) doesn't exceed the capacity of the CD-R or CD-RW you are using; typically, the total playing time of a 700Mb CD is 80 minutes.

Burning an Audio CD Using a Playlist

Once you have created a playlist, simply left-click it (located under the playlists section in the left pane), and then click on the File tab on the main menu, followed by Burn Playlist to Disc. The CD drive tray should now automatically eject so you can insert a blank disc; ideally use a rewriteable disc ( CD-RW) so you can reuse it multiple times. Before iTunes starts burning the DRM protected songs, it will remind you that creating an audio CD is for your own personal use only; once you have read this notice, click on the Proceed button to start burning.

Ripping an audio CD

The final step in this tutorial is to import (rip) the songs that you burned onto audio CD, back to digital music files. We have already configured iTunes (step 1) to encode any audio CD that is inserted into the CD drive as MP3 files and so this stage of the process will be mostly automatic. To start ripping your audio CD, simply insert it into your CD drive and click the Yes button to start. For a more in-depth look at this process, read the tutorial on How to Import CD Tracks Using iTunes.

Once this stage is complete, all the files that have been imported into your music library will be free from DRM; you will be able to transfer them to any device that supports MP3 playback.

Note:The only downside in using this method is that if you have a lot of files that you need to convert, then it ends up a slow and tedious process. With this in mind, use a legal drm removal tool if you have a large quantity that you need to convert.

lost of things could be happening ,depending on optical drive manufacturer, file type, plus or minus dvd/cd blank disk and burning software and how you are burning the media, all can cause malfunctions, but if playing a disc causes blue screen of death, then i would first uninstall display adapter driver on graphics card, and restart, when computer finds new hardware, click cancel,go to dell support and get newest driver, and software,reinstall..some optical drives like minus discs, some like plus discs, depending on the drive,if its a combo drive and will read and write both plus and minus discs, then the problem is how you are burning them,or the laser is dirty or drive is malfunctioning.if you arent allready using nero burning software, then i would reccomend it,i have been doing this a long time, had my days of problems,,not anymore,i dont work for nero nor am i paid by them to say this, but i am a computer repair tech with 25+years experience, save yourself hours of pain and wasted blank discs, and purchase it,user friendly ,easy to use ,and advanced drive speed tools ,allow max preformance on any computer, read instructions ,discs must be burned with correct file type for device that plays them back ,disc at once or track at once settings ,matter, also using the slowest burning speed, creates a higher quality disc, but takes longer, post comments if you have more questions ,aloha from maui todd0708

Can not burn disk on laptop

Will the disc play in your PC or another PC when it is put in there?
Will someone elses burned CD's play in your stereo?
If so, then there may be an additional step when you burn the disc called "finalizing" that will complete the burn on the disc in a way that will prevent any more songs from being added to it, but will make it readable in many more devices.
This usually is either a checkbox or an option pops up after the disc is burned (I don't know about i tunes software for sure).
Since a lot of older stereos cannot play burned CD's there is still a chance this will not work for you.

I purchased a pack of Memorex CD-R rrecordable 52X 700MB 80 min. discs from Staples and I was told I could use these to transfer pictures from my drive c. When I put the CD in to the drive D it asks me to...

Cd-R does not need formatting. They are ready to burn. There is probably a problem with your cdr drive.

A cd-rom drive is not a burner.

Are you sure you have a burner and not a cd-rom?

If you do have a burner, try another few disks. If it still says insert disk then your burner has crapped out.

How do can you burn a music cd

First the best thing to do is put all your music from you CD's from to your computer, by using windows media player and clicking on RIP CD and press start RIP. Once you rip all files to Hard Drive use your burner program. I use Nero, but most burning programs using similar fuctionality. If you only want to copy entire CD instead, just go to burning program and select COPY CD. Follow on screen instruction.

Depending on your burner program you can burn audio CD's quite easily. I myself use Nero and can guide you through the process.
Depending on how you have your desktop setup, I click on me Nero Smart Start. If you don't, then see if you have it under program files and run it.

FOR FULL PROOF RECORDINGS USE NERO AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Once started move mouse pointer on to the audio symbol
  • Click on Audio CD or MP3 CD (Audio Cd for all stereo systems with Cd player and mp3 for only mp3 players. MP3 hold files of music in megabytes and Audio is in minutes and can only fit 89mins on disk)
  • Now a separate box opens up and click on add
  • Another window will open. Need to select My Documents on left hand side in blue writing (That's where Media player stores music)
  • Then double click on My Music Folder under the name category.
  • Then double click on any of the folders of music for example I might have a folder of Mariah Carey, Metalicca and so on and click again on another directory(separate directories if more the one cd if some band here). In each folder will be the music files or names
  • Onec chosen folder click on each individual song and press add, you can also preview each track if no name and only track number
  • You can also click the Green arrow in the right top hand corner to go back to previous folders and click on the ones require to select other songs from other folders.
  • Click on Finish, check if you need more music and add if so, if you have too many deltee them
  • Then click next
  • Make sure blank CD-R 80mins is in drive
  • Select the writing speed and set to 16 speed, as some CD-Players are older and can't read above 16x
  • You can select also How many copies if you like
  • Click on Burn and wait till complete, about 10mins to burn.
  • Once complete click on ok to successful burn and close down Nero. CD will spit out and play CD in a CD player
  • one perfect recording done!

Cd burner wont burn whole cd. It burns 6 out of 18 songs and wont work in cd players. hp pavillion laptop dv2000

Some Cds (or individual songs) are Copyrighted, so they will not burn to new CD.
Make sure you're using CD. W. and not CD. R.W. as the latter will only play in your computer CD player. Where as the former will play in your car or home player.

Cannot copy files to DVD disks

First of all you should have the recording tab ON. Have you tried burning using Nero instead of dragging and dropping? This may solve the problem.

However, if you prefer to drag and drop, try setting the write speed to a slower setting, even if the dvd burner has faster write capabilities.

1. I do not think it is a hardware issue.

2. You can try replacing the IDE cable, but if you can read the contents of the disk it does not suggest a communication issue between the drive and mobo.

3. I do not think that the burning software is to blame, when you drag and drop you are actually using a windows based burning software that is installed with the operating system.

4. set up your files to burn through nero, let the software do the work.

I had the same issue with my dvd burner, although slightly different error messages, solved it by using nero instead.
