Question about IBM ThinkPad T43 Notebook

Open Question

Hii have ibm Thinkpad T43 Laptop. When I pressed the power button yesterday all I hear is a "click" "click" "click" noise and the battery symbol flashes. The laptop will not turn on. I took the battery off and put it back on and when I pressed down the on button it first seemed like it was going to turn on because another symbol next to the battery symbol was lit up (i think it looked like a "z" symbol with a circle around it) but my screen never turned on. I just heard the fan going. I held down the on button and the computer shut off completely (no fan no symbols lit up). When I tried to start it again by pressing the on button the clicking started again with the battery icon flashing. Does anyone know what this is? Can someone guide me how to recity this problem.

SOURCE: thinkpad r40 wont reboot

Batteries can develop a dead short and cause a no start. Try starting without the battery. Other things you can try is checking the power supply with an ohm meter,or plug it in and stick it in your mouth, but me personally, I'd use the ohm meter. Also check the memory, a faulty memory chip can cause this. If none of these work, them I'm afraid the problem may be with the power management chip on the motherboard. If the pm chip is malfunctioning, then motherboard replacement is your only option.

SOURCE: Laptop will not turn on

The two most common causes fot this on the IBM machines are the battery and the memory. Start be removing the battery and starting with the power supply only. Then remove the memory and try each chip one at a time in each slot. If these don't work, then I'm afraid a component has failed in the power management system on the motherboard. Failed power management systems are also common with these, but not as common as a battery or memory failure. If it's the power management system, unfortunately, the motherboard will need replaced.

SOURCE: ibm thinkpad 2656 shows locked symbol when power on

Note that with newer versions with an embedded security chip it is impossible to remove a set password by removing both batteries.
The only thing you can do at that time is replacing the motherboard.

SOURCE: IBM THINKPAD T43. I can find the switch for my ibm thinkpad T43

Are you sure you have a wire card installed? If so, then try this:

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab and press the Device Manager button. The network card should appear under Network Adapters.
Note: If the card has a exclamation mark over a yellow background, then this is an indication that the card is experiencing a problem. Go to Driver download step 5.
  1. Verify that the radio is enabled.
It is possible to disable the transmitter of the wireless card without Device Manager showing any problems.
Note: Follow the instructions provided to enable wireless card.
    • Most wireless cards will put an icon in the system tray (the line of icons in the lower right corner of your screen). Right click this icon and it may have a menu option to enable/turn on the wireless radio.
    • Some systems come with a Wireless Radio switch to disable the wireless radios. The wireless radio switch is usually located on the front side of the machine. If you are having difficulties with wireless connections, make sure the Wireless Radio switch is set in the On position.

  2. Check for association to an Access Point.
If you double-click the previously mentioned system tray icon, the configuration utility of the wireless card will appear. This utility will be able to show the status of the wireless card, showing what channel the card is using and what signal strength is being received. It may be difficult to maintain a connection if signal strength is low due to either interference or distance. For example, interference can be caused by 2.4GHz cordless phones, other Access Points in the area, and physical structures such as load bearing walls or metal partitions.
    Note:
The utility can be used to configure the wireless card settings, but if using Windows XP Zero Configuration or Access Connections, you will need to use those programs to actually configure the wireless card as they will overwrite the setting of the utility.

Cant power up my pc, its a black screen when i push the power button but i hear the fan

First remove the laptop battery, wait 30 seconds, and reinsert battery. Make sure the battery is fully loaded. Switch on the laptop. If you see the BIOS screen, the problem is not with your hardware, but could be a driver issue with Windows. In that case, boot to safe mode by pressing F8 during startup. If you do not see the BIOS screen, the hardware is broken and needs to be repaired.
