Verify if the condenser has a fan if so, suspect the fan defective and coil dirty or clogged, clean coil and replace fan (if any/defective). 2nd possible fault that your defrost system has a possible failure. If your good with an voltmeter you can put it on the "audible" mode and check your defrost heater if good and if it uses an defrost timer or adaptive defrost board suspect that faulty also

Why does the compressor run only for about 5 minutes then shut off, leaving the fan still running?

It seems that you have a system short. You have to try resetting the system. First turn the breaker off for the condenser and wait about 20 seconds. After you turn it back on the system should reset.

If this doesn't help I would recommend calling a ac service company.

Light on but not cold

We could use a few more details to identify the problem. Does the fridge turn on fine and run (is there a noise at the back?) Does the back get warm at all? Have you defrosted it recently? most similar fridges do not have a resettable "pressure switch". some have a resettable thermal cutout on the compressor, usually on the side. unplug the fridge from power before rooting around the compressor area. Hope this helps - awaiting more info :)

Help please - my Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer not cold - top refrigerator getting warm.

Have pressure taps installed, & check the refrigerant... these refrigerators have a critical charge (meaning not a lot of refrigerant to make them work) So whoever puts gauges on it, make sure they purge their hose while screwing the hose on to the new pressure tap so there is no loss of refrigerant & no air gets into the system. It sounds to me like it is low on refrigerant.

1997 jetta ac works for one minute then warm air blows

check the refrigerant level. The compressor is running until the low pressure or high pressure switch switch cuts it off.

Running the unit without enough refrigerant will damage the compressor because the lubricating oil is dissolved in the refrigerant. This is the reason for the low pressure switch cut off--to protect the compressor from damage.

If pressure gets too high, the compressor seals will blow. Thus the reason for the high pressure switch. Too much refrigerant or too much air in the system (due to a leak) will cause high pressures.

If refrigerant level appears to be correct, then suspect trapped air from a leak causing a high pressure cut-off. If refrigerant is low, suspect a leak causing a low pressure cut-off.

Freezer is warm, not freezing at all, fans run

If the fans your talking about are in the refrigeration section, then the unit is not in defrost. The interior fans shut off during the defrost cycle.
There is a condenser fan motor in the machine section by the compressor. If it fails, the problem you described can occur.
If that fan motor is still, and the compressor is cool to the touch, then no power is getting to the refrigeration section.
Could be a bad thermostat, or the unit has tripped off on the high pressure safety switch. The high pressure switch can be one of 2 styles. Auto reset, which means it will try to restart the compressor when the pressures become normal. The other has a lock out feature that requires it be reset manually. If it goes out on the high pressure switch, once reset, check the condenser fan motor to make sure it is running and/or excessive dirt in the condenser, which must be blown out.
Other causes can be a total loss of refrigerant, or a compressor that won't run.
Short of a broken wire all items listed except for a dirty condensor and reset of the high pressure switch, require a decent knowledge of electrical, Knowledge in the use of a VOM meter and amp-probe, as well as a set of refrigeration gauges.

Kitchen aid top shelf warm

  1. check gasket
  2. check the light switch on top of the refrig. section. If then pushed the switch turns the light off, but the light is still on with the fridge door closed - door needs adjustment.

A/C problem

The low pressure cut out switch located in the larger refrigerant line (the low pressure side) in front of the evaporator (passenger side, under the hood) may be sensing low refrigerant. Also the low pressure switch may have a bad electrical connection or the switch may be going bad.

Top portion of rrefrigerator on refrig side is hot

Check to see if refrigerator door is even with freezer door at top, or is it lower. If lower, the light switch may not be contacted fully. Remove toe plate , bottom front on fridge. Under refrigerator door bottom hinge is a threaded rod. Adjust this to raise door to make level.
