Re: Connecting JVC HR-XVC27U VCR/DVD Combo to DIRECT TV
Do you have the hr-xvc27Uc, hr-xvc27um, or hr-xvc27us? It should be fairly similar for all of them. Connect the TV out coax from the Direct TV box to the "UHF/VHF in" on the VCR/DVD, then connect the "UHF/VHF out" from the VCR/DVD to the "antenna in" on your TV. Coac cable at the thicker cables that you screw on. Then I would connect the S-Video out and Component out connection on the VCR/DVD to your TV in available to get a better picture when watching DVD. I would also connect your Direct TV box directly to your TV using S-Video or component if available. S-Video is the cable with the round connector with 5 pins in it and component cables use three cables (YPbPr).

There is no HDMI OUT socket on this player. I don't enjoy giving negative answers, so if you could explain why you want to use an HDMI cable with this player, I can possibly make some suggestions which will help you to achieve whatever it is you are trying to do.
If you were simply looking to buy this or any other player and want one with an HDMI output, you should look for something else ;)
Had the same problem on my JVC vcr/dvd combo unit.
You need to turn off the timer function. I did this by making sure my remote was in the "VHS" mode...turn the swith from TV to the right (found on the remote in the upper left corner...an then hit the "vcr" button. Then point the remote at the VCR unit and hit the No. 4 button (timer turns off). Your unit should not have the red timer displayed and you should be able to play your tapes okay.
Since the H21 does not have a coax out then I think you will need to go to the TV first and then to your DVD/VCR. In order for me to help you fully, when is the make/model of your TV. And for the sake of completion, if you have a AV receiver (home theatre or surround sound stereo) what is it's make and model. I will then be able to describe exactly how you should connect everything up. Thanks.
