I had the similar problem at first. You need to use another disc before you can configure the video output. Make sure you enable the HDMI output.

Black and white picture with red lines vibrating with sound.

More info would be nice. Are you using HDMI or Component cables. If it is component cables (red, blue, green for video white and red for audio) Check your red and blue connection. Green alone will give you a black and white picture.
If you are using an HDMI cable, replace the cable to see if this changes anything or if you have another tv swap cables to see if problem stays with tv or moves to another tv.

I have a Malata DVP 890. I pressed a button on the remote (it is in Chinese) and the crenn dissapeared. I can get sound from the DVD if I use the red/ whiit and yloow plug connections. Nothing with...

unplug the unit for about 20 minutes. This should allow the unit to go back to it's factory default settings.
Switch the TV to the HDMI input. Turn the TV off - hook the unit up with only the HDMI and turn on the TV.
If all goes well, the TV should signal the DVD player to turn on.
If not, wait about 10 minutes then manually turn on the DVD from the front panel (not the remote)
This will usually fix you right up.

No sound when using an hdmi

Even with HDMI, you still need either the red and white audio cables or the Optical fiber hookup.

Sony DVP-NS77H No outout

I had the same problem unitl I read the manual a little more carefully.

I found that ALL connections through my AV receiver had to be identical. I was using component connections with analog connections.

Since I switched to all HDMI connections (cable box to AV receiver, DVD to AV receiver and AV receiver to TV) all is fine.

Hope this helps.

Hookup

very simple , just made sure dvd output hooked to the input of your tvs and same color ,jack to jack, you know, yellow to yellow, red to red ,white to white. But I suggest you use a s-video jack(all black). instead of the yellow composite ,or RCA jack, which give you a better picture, and if you have a the component jacks (red, blue , green)on both machine , that will give you the best picture, but remember , you still have to connect the red(right channel,+))and white(left channel,-)cable to have sound coming out from your tv.You will need a s-video cable or component cables for those option I suggested.
