Question about Computers & Internet
Posted by Anonymous on
It depends on the laptop and the software. If the laptop does not have an optical drive, either download the software (many companies will let you buy the software as a download with an extra fee for either a CD/DVD sent in addition or an "download again if needed") or get an external optical drive (USB). Some of these drives use an external power brick; others are powered by USB and take 2 USB ports. The prices for the USB powered optical drives is ~$50.
If you downloaded the software, unzip the file(s) if needed then right click on the installer and select Run As Administrator. (With some software, do not let the program run when the install is finished. It can get locked to always launch the UAC to check if you are the administator.) With the external optical drive, you would install the software as you do with an internal optical drive (either auto-run or manually access the drive and find the executable file).
I hope this helps.
