Ink cartridge ink levels are found in the printer control panel and may be off (the bar graph) due to the fact that it is only an estimate.

Are there any HP ink cartridges which contain the chip to show ink levels? For Photosmart

Most inkjet printers have cartridges with chips. They don't mesure the ink level. The printer is using the chip as a memory to keep track of the amount of ink left in the cartridge. So when it orders the cartridge to print, it will subtract the amount of ink from the memory. So in most cases the chip will tell your printer it is empty, while still some ink can be left in there.
Cartridges in a laser printer also have chips with the same functionality.

How do I know WHICH of the ink cartridges is out?

I found this on the Epson Web Site. If you find this information helpful, pls rate me.
You can download the Reference Guide with pictures and all.

http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/r220__/r220__rf/index.htm

Windows
You can check the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges using EPSON Status Monitor 3 or the progress meter. Refer to the sections below for details.
EPSON Status Monitor 3 Access EPSON Status Monitor 3 in one of the following ways.
  • Double-click the printer-shaped shortcut icon on your Windows taskbar. To add a shortcut icon to the taskbar, see the section below.
    font26.gif See Monitoring Preferences
  • Open the printer software, click the Maintenance tab, then click the EPSON Status Monitor 3 button.
A graphic displays the remaining amount of ink.

If any of the ink cartridges installed in the printer is broken, incompatible with the printer model, or improperly installed, EPSON Status Monitor 3 will not display an accurate calculation for the amount of ink remaining in any of the ink cartridges. Be sure to replace or reinstall any ink cartridge indicated by EPSON Status Monitor 3.

Pls rate me. Thanks and Good Luck.....

My epson printer will not print after a new ink cartrae has been fitted

Is the Error LED -OFF

 No ink cartridge
When the printer detects that ink cartridge comes off, or failed to read or write CSIC data, it goes into this error mode.

The Print Head has the Electric Poles (CSIC Connectors) to store the ink consumption amount data into the CSIC chip mounted on the Ink Cartridge. By storing the ink consumption amount data, this printer can detect the ink consumption status, such as Ink Low/Out condition.

Either the connectors or the chip or even both is the problem. You can try trouble shooting both.

You can buy what you need if anything at this web site.
PCMemoryStore.com

I didn't think the parts were to expensive.
Hope this helps.

How to fix problem E16 in my printer canon mp160

E16 – The ink level cannot be correctly recognized or detected.
How to correct, fix: A used ink cartridge may be installed, or the ink cartridge is empty. Press the <Black> or <Color> button, to clear the error and continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge. However, the remaining ink amount cannot be detected properly, so the function to detect the remaining ink amount does not operate.

NO WAY TO TELL WHICH INK IS LOW OR NEEDS REPLACING ON STYLUS C88+

Sounds as if you have either Linux or a Mac computer. There are ink level monitors for these operating systems, However there can be problems installing them.

On Windows the ink level monitor should pop up when printing. It is part of the printer utilities. Open printer properties and set the options desired.

When the printer stops printing, press the ink button and remove the indicated cartridge and replace. If more than one remove and shake next to your ear, replace the empty cartridges only. A tiny amount of ink remains in the cartridge when empty. This amount is so small it has a distinct sound signature compared to a part used cartridge.

Ink or printers problem

Most likely the ink cartridges for this printer have a chip on them. This chip tells the printer how much ink is left and when it is low or out, you must replace the whole cartridge otherwise if you just refill it, the chip will still report the same amount of ink as it doesn't go by the actual ink level inside the cartridge, it determines the ink level by calculating approximately how much ink has been used while it was printing. So it doesn't matter how full the cartridge is, unless you replace the cartridge or reset the counter on the chip somehow, it will still display the calculated amount not the actual amount.
