Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

At login I get the rainbow wheel; i eventually get the login window, then the rainbow wheel again, permanently.

This seems to happening a lot at the moment!
From experience it can be a number of things, the worst being a failing hard-drive These imacs are now at least 6 years old and unfortunately HDs don't last forever anymore.
Try starting up from your install Cd and run the disk first-aid found in the utilities menu. Does it fix anything? does the Mac now start up properly. Also while you are in the utility, look to see how much free space is left on the HD. You should have at least 10% of the HD's total capacity free. if not then the system has to work overtime and that invariably invokes the beach-ball.
If the utilities found nothing wrong and you do have plenty of free space then the next thing is to do an "Archive & Install"
This will reinstall the system software which may have become corrupted. The down side is that you will have to run all the updates that you already had done all over again.
You have got everything backed up haven't you?

Isight intermittent. G5 Imac 17" The Isight cam I have now dubbed 10sec cam turns off and has to be restarted.

I understand from your problem statement that the internal iSight camera in your G5 iMac turns itself off around 10 seconds after you turn it on.
Create a new temporary user in System Preferences / Accounts. Log out and then log in as this user. Enable the camera. Does it still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, something running in your other user account (a startup program or system preference) is interfering with the operation of your camera.
If you have a spare external drive, install a fresh version of the Mac OS on that drive, then boot from that drive. Does the camera still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, you should run an OS installation with "archive and install" on your internal drive. If it does, you have a hardware problem that requires a Mac tech. If this is indeed a G5 iMac, the repair will likely not be cost-effective.

New imac 24inch screen does not start

Hi there,

If you have re-installed the RAM without any luck, it looks like you have to take trip to your closest Apple Repairer. It could be any number of problems. Video card, display, logic board. Only when it has been diagnosed will it be known. If the computer is less than 10 days old you can ask for a new one. Yours would be classed as DOA. If not, standard warranty it 12 months from the Invoice date.

Hope this helps

IMac G3 Not Starting

Hey, RexKing:

Your problem is hard to diagnose with your current description without knowing where the clicking sound is coming from or exactly what it sounds like, but most likely the problem resides either with the power supply or its connection to the circuit boards. If you have access to any scrapped G3 iMacs to cannibalize for parts at an E-recycling depot, you can probably find just about anything you need, as long as you get the right model, as they changed key components a few times, but, like cars, a lot of parts cross over. The exact model description is on the bottom in really fine print.

In any case, you will have to take it apart to check out the power supply and/or other components, which is a bit tricky without a guide. You can find a really comprehensive Apple iMac G3 service document, for many of the later models, posted at this URL as an 11 Mb PDF file:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/103447/iMac-G3-Disassembly-Guide?autodown=pdf

Only catch is that to download it you need to sign up for a free SCRIBD account. (It's a document sharing co-op site.) Hopefully this won't result in years of spam. Good luck, and if you figure out the cause, please let me know. (I have about a dozen iMac G3s that I am gradually refurbishing.)

Next time for any older model Apple portables including the MacMINI that no longer has its AppleCare has major issues and need to be fixed, and you have a small knowledge of how to follow instructions and use a screw driver then you should go to ifixit.com. They have the part that you would need and as a bonus to you when you order from them is they send you the how to remove old and replace with new. Step by Step with precise information and so you don't get totally lost in type there is an image to each step. The person who made that site sure did do a great and helpful job. And the instructions to do any of the jobs that is needed is given to all for FREE. You don't need to buy anything from them or give them any info for the free info. ((this is for anyone that might think i am punting for them-which i am-and they don't know i am)) < and i don't get squat from em but the same information you get >

Imac / illustrator10

According to something I read in another forum:
Use migration assistant (in utilities) to copy over Illustrator 10 via firewire from your G4 to your imac. This is the only thing that might work without upgrading to a newer version of Illustrator.

I'm planning on trying it with both Illustrator 10 and Indesign 2.0 - Photoshop 7 won't go at all no matter what one tries according to what I've read. I'll be upgrading to CS3 for Photoshop. No choice.
