Hello Inelson002,

Unfortunately, the Dell Dimnsion 4700 does not accept the new DDR2 standard for memory modules. You can only use DDR RAM.
See HERE

Sorry about that, but you could always upgrade your existing RAM with DDR.

I have a DELL with XP-Home Edition - version 2002 service pack 3, Intel(R) - Pentium(R) 4cpu 2.66ghz, 2.66ghz, 512 MB of RAM My daughter plays games and has 24 of them in the computer - she tells me I...

Hello, Jim.

Dell's official position is that the maximum memory for this PC is 1 GB. But, it may be able to support 2 GB, per Intel's specs.

But, to answer your question - yes - you can increase your memory amount to 1 GB. Since the system has 2 memory slots, you could conceivably have (2) 512KB modules (total 1 GB). If your system already has 1 module of 512 KB, you could add another. Just be certain it's the same type and speed.

Or, you could have a 1 GB module.

I don't think that your computer's life is in jeopardy, but additional memory always helps the speed of your computer.

Hope this helps.

My system says, (RAM) radon access memory low cpu intel (r) pentium 4 cpu, version 2.80 ghz. RAM 256 mb. What can I do to resolve this problem. Dell 4700 dimension

Windows XP requires a "bare-minimum" of 128MB of RAM, works "OK" with your 256MB of RAM, if you don't open too many programs at the same time, and if you close/re-open Internet Explorer about once an hour of usage.

But, Windows XP would be _much_ "happier" if you added 256MB or 512MB of RAM, because it is telling you ("available random access memory is low") that it is using all the RAM.

Add more RAM -- your computer will run much better.

I have a dimension 4100, and only have 512 in ram because it only has 2 slots, is there any way to use a bigger stick to increase ram?

Yes, if only one slot is being used you can install another 512 MB of ram which will give you 1024 MB or 1GB. If both slots have 256 MB in each one then you will need to just buy a 1GB strip of Ram. Go to the link I am posting and let them scan your computer. They will tell you exactly what you can install and the price. This is a site I use all the time and it is reputable and safe with good prices. This will require a download of the scanning tool which is safe. Allow the download. http://www.crucial.com/

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2

RAM

You may have bad or incompatible Ram . Verify that the memory you have is compatible. .

Machine name: Dell Dimension 3000
CPU options: Intel Pentium 4 or Intel Celeron
Chipset: Intel 865GV Chipset
HD Bus: Ultra ATA/100
Front Side Bus options: 800MHz FSB
Memory Speed options: PC3200 DDR400 184pin SDRAM DIMM
Special notes: The Dimension 3000 has two different bus speeds each of which takes different memory. You cannot mix the speeds.

Take the memory out and install one at a time. This way you can verify that the memory is indeed working. If you find a bad one, replace it.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Grafix card upgrade

Sure go over to www.tigerdirect.com and check out the new boards, I like the nforce boards, and I tend to favor Asus boards, but the Gigabite and Abit are all top of the line boards. Look at the combo's on that site, they run specials, like last week I saw a really good nforce board with the quad core Intel processor and 2 gigs of ram for around $2-3.00, if you just need a board be careful that you get the same type of ram that you want, they have some high end asus boards for as high as $700.00 but that is just nuts for two hundred you can get a pretty sick board, also see if your stuff is compatable before you buy it. Like your card and stuff. Good luck and have fun, Peace, Gym

PNY memory

Hi

Dell Dimension 5150 supports DDR2 400MHz (PC2-3200) and DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4300) unbuffered SDRAM Memory (DIMM). You may install a total of four DIMMs in capacities of 256MB, 512MB, or 1GB. The maximum memory supported is 4GB.

From your query, I think the obvious question is; What is specification of the PNY DIMM and/or does the PNY DIMM meet the requirements for Dimension 5150?

Check for memory configuration and installation procedures for Dimension 5150 - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150/en/sm/parts1.htm#wp1364711

The Chipset used on Dimension 5150 is Intel 945G Express. I am not aware of specific compatibility issues regarding the Intel 945G and PNY Memory modules. However, there may really be known issues that I am not aware of.

To proceed, ensure that the PNY Memory is compatible with Dimension 5150. If not, install compatible (memory type, speed, capacity) DIMMs.

Let me know if further help is needed.

Mike

Memory detected/Memory failure on Dell Dimension PC

So basically the computer does not start. Because I am not sure that is what you are saying.

I think from my understanding it is an issue with vista rather than with the computer. Somehow the new driver has put your computer in sleep mode. The computer of friend of mine starts by itself.

Another I want to say that the memory cards are fragile they can go bad. The way you touch them it is important.
