Question about Whirlpool Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

We have Convection Micro model GM8155XJB-O. I cooked some sausages for 3 min, turned it off then put something else in and started it up and it would not turn on correctly, something just hummed but the microwave was not cooking and we could not stop it with any buttons and had to unplug the cord.

It sounds like the control panel circuit board is damaged.

Duane Wong... I also believe the control board is broke. My next question is could I replace the board myself and would a generic or OEM board be nearly as expensive as buying a new compariable appliance? In other words is it worth the expense of fixing this one versus buying a new oven. This one was purchased in June 2004.

    Thank you

The way things keep changing and getting better and better for a lower and lower cost, I would recommend that you purchase a new one rather than trying to fix the old board problem.

    Good luck to you.

Microwave plate turner keeps spinning even with door closed and microwave turned off

My microwave is doing this as well; It's a frigidaire model #FGMV154CLFA.

After using the microwave part (it is also convection), the light stays on in the microwave and the turner keeps turning.

And I've only used the convection part of my microwave a couple times and I'm not sure if I was successful. While trying to cook something in convection mode, I pressed convection, then pressed the temp i wanted, then convection, then keyed in the time I wanted the item to cook. The microwave started and the timer started counting down but the countdown stopped with 8 minutes left? I left it alone to see what would happen and it never finished so I restarted the process again.

PS..I've never gotten an error code

Sharp mdl R-1870 convection microwave runs for 1 min

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo.

We have the service manual and have uploaded it to our site:

Rack in microwave

You should not have any metals in the oven when the microwave is on. If you are just doing convection cooking, the metal rack should be in so that what you are cooking is raised up so the hot air can surround what you are cooking.

Sunbeam SMW5500 micro/convection oven shorted out when opening door

You are decribing a typical Door Safety Switch problem. The Door Safety Switches has Failed. The Door Safety Switch is designed to shut down the Micro in the event the Micro is still cooking when the door is being opened. The first "Click" of the switch cuts off the "Cook". If it does not cut off the "Cook", the second "Click" blows the power. Otherwise it would "Cook" with the door open, and I need not to tell you how DANGEROUS that could be. It first Tripped the Circuit Breaker which supplies power to the Microwave. After Re-Setting the Breaker the same thing happened except this time the Micro is DEAD- not even a light working. Yes, there is a line FUSE inside the Micro. You however need to address the Door Switch SHORT before replacing the fuse. If not, it will just Blow The Fuse Again, and Again, until the Short is corrected.
Call around, ask How much to replace a Door Safety Switch.
Good Luck!
