Question about D-Link Wireless

1 Answer

I just purchased the D-Link wireless router. Connected everything ran the CD and I'm not connected for some reason? I may have connected something wrong, but I was following all the error message is that one of my devices does not appear to be on the network map? What ever that means?

what operating system are you using? (Windows XP, 2000, Vista, 7, Mac OS) If windows Vista- you want top make sure your network device is working and not disabled, go to start>control panel>network and sharing center>network connections(its link on the left side that says manage network connections) you should see a local area connection that's your wired network card and a wireless network connection. My advise is to connect via wire first to make sure the router is functional then configure wireless. Unfortunately there's alot of variables in your problem (router, computer and modem (DSL or Cable)) and I'll need to walk you step by step in configuring it to make sure you're up and running. send me more info such as 1. are you connected directly to the router like on port 1 and if so does the #1 light flash on the router 2. can you enter the router config screen? or do you know how? 3. if you can enter the setup can you see a valid ip address from your ISP as you can see its simple but time consuming, easier to talk you through it than back and forth typing but I can help you.

First of all for using a router you need not install any cd...

try connecting your laptop to any one of the wired (lan) ports of router using an ethernet cable and check whether you are able to access or not...

if you are able to access then search for the wireless networks in range...

you will see linksys network... try connecting to it and access wireless internet...

if you are not able to access internet even through ethernet cable then you need to configure your router first...

to get an idea of how to configure your router have a look at this link...

I have a linksys wireless router and I connected to router but when I try to go to a web site I get the error not connected to the internet

That only means your router is not properly setup.
If you still have the cd that came with the product , just ran the cd and follow the instructions. If you dont have a Cd , you can setup the router manually by logging into the router web interface.
The address of the router is No username and password is admin. ( this is the default)
Once you get inside the router page, just setup the unit based from your ISP settings.
If you want a walk thru on this step, it would be good to call linksys techsupport at 1800linksys.
