Hello juniordavis,

If you have an iPod nano, iPod (5G), or subsequently released iPod model, you can unlock the iPod by doing the following:

Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked.

If you can't unlock iPod using either the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod.

If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this:
1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer.
3. Open iTunes and synchronize. If that doesn't work work, plug in your ipod to your primary computer and enable hidden folders to bring up a new folder: iPod_Control. Inside this folder is another named Device, and inside this is a file named "_locked". Opening up this file in Notepad, you will find a bunch of symbols, presumably an encrypted password. Simply delete the file, and the iPod should be unlocked. The fix for this problem depends on what type of iPod you have. However, the following set of steps should work for any model.

1) First rename the _locked file to _unlocked. Disconnect the iPod and reset it.

2) If that did not solve the problem, delete all the text inside the aforementioned file. Save it, and then disconnect the iPod and reset it.

3) If that still did not work, delete the file and then disconnect the iPod and reset it.

Keep in mind that this is not an Apple-sanctioned guide, so use caution when trying this, and if you are not sure of what you are doing, backup any files before you alter or delete them. Hope this helps!

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved. If it isn't, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can.
If you find that the solution I provided you led you to, or resulted in a resolution, please close the ticket with a FixYa! or Helpful rating, which would be much appreciated :)
Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can get to the root of the problem and find a fix.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Connect the iPod to the primary computer even if it is asking for the code. You should be able to view the files on the computer. To view hidden files, go to START > RIGHT CLICK > EXPLORE > TOOLS (top left corner of screen) > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW TAB > HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. Now mark "Show hidden files and folders" as checked. Click OK. You should be able to see the hidden folders now.

    Good Luck!

you can try plugging it into computer and that may unlock it

you can also try a restore which you will lose all info and need to put it back on

    How to restore iPod

    1. Ensure that you
have an active Internet connection as new versions of iTunes and iPod
Software may need to be downloaded to your computer.

    2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you do not already have it installed.

    3. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.

    4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.

    5. Select your iPod in the Source panel and you will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.

    6. Click
the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore
options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download the latest
iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:

      • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.

      • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.

      • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software available.

      • Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software available.

    7. If you are using a Mac, a message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator’s name and password.

    8. A
progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the
first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is
completed, iTunes will present one of two messages on screen with
instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.

      • Restore Instruction 1: Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).

      • Restore Instruction 2: Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).

    9. During
the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as
well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.

    10. After
stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to
the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you
to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when
you connected your iPod for the first time.

Ipod Lock
You can unlock iPod in one of two ways: 1...Enter the combination on iPod using the same controls you used to set the combination. If you do not enter the correct combination, the digits onscreen flash red. When you enter the combination correctly, iPod will unlock and return you to the last viewed screen. 2...Connect iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked. If you can’t unlock iPod using either of these methods, you can restore your iPod to factory settings. Probelm with my Apple Ipot

I get a similar error and one thing you can try is opening the ipod (taking off the silver cover) and closing it back up.

This is only temporary and I'm not sure what's causing the actual error to come up, but it could be the hard drive failing.
