Question about RCA HD61LPW42 61" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

I see someone else has had a similar problem(Jun 15,2010), but no solution posted yet. I have a monster surge protector. It worked the first night that we lost power. I reset it and everything was fine. Next night power went out then came back on but tv will play sound on any input channel for a second or two, then go silent/ picture never shows up, but does display 'signal unavailable' and i can view and use the menu screen. What can I do to correct the problem?

I just tried this and nothing different has happened. I still just get 2 seconds of sound and no video, then just signal unavailable. Everything was fine until we unplugged the t.v. to move out of the way, then after plugging back into the wall we have the same problem. Any new suggestions?

Monster 1250g does not turn on

Surge protectors either have a switch that trips or a fuse that blows when high current passes through. This is a safety mechanism that protects your appliances from an "electrical surge".

The fuse is most likely blown. you can easily check if the fuse still works with a multimeter. If it isnt, change it and the strip should start working again. ( if u have a reset button on the spike, try hittin that. Im not sure if this model has a fuse or the breaker switch that trips.)

That is your power indicator light. You may need to reset the protector itself, or you may have a problem with the power source. Try turning it off and then back on. Make sure you turn off the devices first.

Great testimony for those Monster surge protectors, huh?

Did the failure coincide with the storms? If so, stick a fork in it, it's done.

Just the same, if you really want an assessment as to damage and cost you need to have someone knowledgeable give it the sniff test in person.

No one out here can do that.

Turn everything off but the receiver. If it stays on turn another one on and see if it pops off if not continue. Most receivers have a pause start to prevent power surge. If it continues remove the protector and try the unit alone.

Monster power ht 800 just makes noise, won't work. any fix?

Had similar problem. Paraphrasing the warranty info sheet (with concurrance of my Geek Squad friends), our HT800s have sacrificed themselves to protect our components. They tell me it is possible for only one circuit in a home to have an electrical surge. That is why the TV in one room may "blow" and the adjoining room TV not. Bottom line: Time to buy a new surge protector.

Computer power won't turn on

First thing to do is try to plug the pc in another wall socket to see if it goes on, If not, the MB could have gotten fried, even though the other plugs seem to work. Hopfully you just need another surge protector as that could have gotten damaged.

Surge protectors

Hey Laduell,

Before anything else, it's probably best to explain the differences between power surges and flux. Power surges (also called voltage or electrical spikes) are generally caused by a sudden, massive increase or decrease in the voltage flowing through an electrical circuit. Flux, on the other hand, can be defined as the actual voltage flowing through a circuit at any given time.

Whenever an electrical device turns on, turns off, or changes modes of operation, it can cause slight disturbances or differences in the voltage flowing through an electrical circuit. Exactly how much of a difference is made may be dependent on the type of electronic device attached, though major electronics and appliances will have a larger "pull" than smaller devices, like clock radios. The more devices are attached to the same circuit, the larger these voltage differences may become.

This fluctuation in voltage - combined with other electrical, magnetic or radio frequency interference ("noise") - has been known to cause problems or even damage in some electrical devices. To prevent such damage, many manufacturers may include "noise reduction" or "EMI/RFI protection" features in their surge protectors.

As both Dynex and Monster Cables appear to include such a feature in many of their products, the price difference you are seeing may simply be related to the number of additional features that the Monster Cable surge protector offers, though this cannot be guaranteed.

If you're in doubt about your purchase, I would strongly suggest contacting either manufacturer for more information. Most manufacturers are able to provide you with detailed descriptions of their product features, and one of the two may be able to point you towards an online FAQ if one is available. Dynex's toll-free hotline is 888-305-2204, and Monster Cable can be reached at 415-840-2000.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
