I have a SONY rear projection TV. Model # KP-46wt500. When the TV is first turned on the picture is good. A few minutes later the picture will go blue. If you turn the TV off and then on again, the picture is back but fades to blue again but more quickly. When the blue screen appears there is still a very faint image of the program being broadcast.

Symptom shows its problem of blue picture tube, you will notice few thin retrace lines across the screen when KP-46WT500 tv picture turns to blue.
Blue picture tube need to be replaced as this tv has 3 picture tubes, red, green, blue to project color picture on front screen.
Picture tube replacement in rear projection tv is job of an experienced tv repairman because tv needs convergence adjustment after picture tube replacement.
Let me know if you have additional question.
    Thanks.

    OK, no problem.
I'm Sony tv tech and know this problem.

  • gherman7374 Jul 16, 2010

I took the rear panel off the TV and watched the lights as they faded, the blue was still on, the green one went really dim. I would think the green one should be replaced.

No, thats not the case, blue picture got internal problem, we call it heater-cathode shorted that cause blue picture tube to start electron emission on full speed (means more bright) and becomes out of control.
Technical name of this problem is HK Touch of CRT.
TV repairman/ technician would understand that technical term.
Solution is to replace blue picture tube that would cost you much, like $350 if blue picture is available somewhere.

I suppose this is a DLP projection tv? If it is anything else then let me know and I will tell you what the possibilities are.

This is definitely a problem related to bad caps most likely on the blue CRT board. Since the board is not expensive I suggest that you replace the entire board. Costs about 25-50$+ labor

  • gherman7374 Jul 16, 2010

I really dont think it is DLP the model number is KP-46WT500

Only able to receive small pictures on certain channels broadcasting some older programs.adverts and most programs are ok,but selected few are not?

Most television advertising and broadcasts today are in 16:9 aspect ratio. This is why they seem alright. However, older TV shows will still show up in their native 4:3 ratio since they were recorded that way. You may be able to force them to 16:9 ratio, but although they will now be full screen, their images will be distorted in the horizontal plane. Most TVs are designed to auto-adjust to the 4:3 resolution to prevent this distortion.

Can the lamp be replaced for a Polaroid TLX03210B

You likely have a LCD set there which may likely use a back light inside to light the image, get the room as dark as you can and with a flashlight illuminate the screen from a angle, with set on if you can see the faint image on the screen of the program you have a Backlight issue'

1. Voltage not there or not being switched on for backlight.

2. Actual back light bad.

If the image can be seen with a flashlight one of the above is the issue and your "picture will appear very faintly" also suggests this.

TV quits after a few minutes-get a blue screen, no picture and no audio

My best recommendation is to pull the back off it and blow the dust out. Dust is electrostatically attraced to the components inside and acts like a blanket. This causes overheating. Remember to leave your tv unplugged for at least an hour before taking the back off as the CRT (picture tube) will store a charge which can kill you.

Sony KP-51HW40 51 in. Rear Projection turns blue

Hello......
First reduse the G2 voltage for the blue c.r.t,and watch if the unit works for longer period (offcource blue colour will be not present). After reducing G2 voltage to blue c.r.t still behaves the same than c.r.t is faulty and you have to replace.
Pls count the red led blinking when it goes off, incase it goes to std by mode.

Tv has sound but no image

When you say no image this could mean anything from, snow picture, blank screen, blue screen. Also, dry joints on the PCB can cause such a problem. More especially on the picture tube board.
