We received a Garmin Nivi 660 yesterday from Amazon.com. We turned it on and tested it out and it seemed to work fine. This morning I noticed there was not much battery power left so I decided to plug it in using the AC adapter and left it plugged in for 8 hours. The battery power showed the same as before. Then I decided to try plugging it in using my car adapter and as soon as I did that the screen went blank like it powered down.. Thinking there was something wrong with the power source I took it inside and plugged it in using the adapter. It did the same thing......so I tried my computer..........shut down as soon as connected to the USB. If I power it up without any of the charging devices attached it seems to come up fine. As soon as I connect anything to it, it shuts off. I've tried resetting it and it does the same thing. I am wondering if I have a defective unit or if there is something I am doing incorrectly??

I had the same problem. My Nuvi 350 did not power up for a couple of days. I suspected moisture to be the culprit. So I took my wife's hair dryer and blew hot air(in the intermediate setting) into the SD card slot in the GPS for a couple of minutes. Take care not to overheat the GPS or Screen. Pronto my GPS powered up without any issues. Hope this helps
I have the same problem with a Blackberry 8100 (Pearl). Worked fine before the upgrade. The only solution seems to be disabling the Blutooth on the Garmin and then reenabling it when the BB Pearl is in range.
Can you update the firmware on your unit
my k800i sony phone had a problem synchronising and would freeze, then one day the nuvi 660 updated the firmware by itself and has been fine since, only problem being the volume, a bit low when trying to contest with large diesel engine, onboard speaker keen to distort over 80% volume
Don't know why it happens, but mine did the same thing. There's a reset button on the back, underneath where you lift up the antenna. Unplug the unit from the power source, push the reset button, reconnect to a power source and it should work fine; mine did. Good luck. Got this info from my Garmin owner's manual.
No need to format and please do not try to change anything from the GARMIN files.
MP3 only can be read. Use SD to read or you can drop into the proper file when you plug to your computer. The file name GARMIN include many files. One of them is for MP3 , you will see example of music inside. Please do not play with other GARMIN FILES or you will had some problems with your unit.
Please refer to your manual 650, for the proper way to listen or insert MP3.
