Check the back of your tv to see if you have 1 or 2 coax connectors (screw on connectors). If you have 1 no worries it can do antenna or cable on the same. Go into the menu settings look for "autoprogram" it may be under a submenu possibly labeled "channel" or "setup". It will ask if you want antenna or cable. select antenna, the tv will scan for any channels, locking in the ones it sees and ignores the channel numbers it can't see.
If you have 2 connections select the one that says either "antenna" or "VHF/UHF". Just follow the same autoprogram as above. The TV is only as good as the signal it gets, if the signal is weak it may not see it and skip it. Good luck

We cant afford cable or satelite. How do we set up digital channels on an emerson smart tv with no antenna

You have to get the digital signal from somewhere. You have discounted the two most used;

This leaves you with two options;
External antennae

Or in your case, the best bet as you have smart television;
Internet based television. However to get that you need a fast broadband service. My broadband supplies my television signal, so I have a 125mbps connection. With that you can access all the recorded programs that YouTube offers, plus films and shows from Netflix and other programme producers like Crackle. Basically, in Smart mode your television becomes a huge computer monitor. You might wish to get yourself a wireless keyboard as trying to use the remote for accessing content is very tedious.

I would get the external antennae as well as they are inexpensive and will give you local stations and additional programming.

Emerson hdtv does not pick up any antenna signal

With digital OTA TV signals, a lot of things could cause you to fail to pick up a signal on any channel. First, do you have an indoor or outdoor antenna and how far are you from the transmitters for you local stations? Digital signals are either enough to for the tuner to interpret or you get no signal. Next check that the antenna is pointing at your stations' transmitters. Use or to check the direction for your location. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna and provides a very conservative list of stations.

Check for buildings, hills or tall trees that might block the signal to your location.

If your antenna is providing a signal to several TVs, try a direct connection (taking out the splitter). You may need an amplified splitter to minimize the signal loss. Note: amplifiers (whether at the splitter or part of the antenna) can fail and become signal filters (blockers) instead. The direct connection tests this as well.

If another TV does pick up the signal from the antenna (at this point), then the tuner may have failed. It may also just be a weaker tuner compared to the other TV. Surges (for example, lightning strikes) can cause a tuner failure. In that case, you need a new tuner. (a stand-alone tuner like the converter boxes might work) or try a site like, or SearsPartsDirect lists the tuner here: .

This TV was made by Funai so you may see other TVs that use the same part.

I hope this helps.

(I have two TVs with different quality tuners. With one, when the antenna shifts slightly out of place, I can lose the ability to tune in the channels from the closest transmitters. The other TV does not lose the signal until the antenna rotates more than 90 degrees from its usual position.)

Will not pick up signal for cable channels

ok the first thing I would check is your settings. Most TV's have an antenna and a cable setting when you program the channels. If that does not work you might have a problem with your signal board. You can get parts for that tv at

My EmersonEwf2006 was connected and programmed to a cable box. Trying to use this same tv now with an indoor antenna for local channels. Lost my guide book therefore I have no directions. can't get it...

Here is a link to a site where you can download the manual at no charge: You will need a digital TV converter for that set. The US is now all digital for over-the-air (OTA) TV signals. If you have a digital TV converter, and have followed the instructions in the manual installing your indoor antenna and get no stations, you need a better antenna.

My ILO 26HD LCD tv want get but one channel

You may have to enter the "Menu" of the TV and run the set-up for the cable/antenna connection. This will scan channels and program them to the TV, then you can access them.

Failing that you may have a bad tuner, unplug the TV for a few minutes then replug it and try again.

Hope this helps!
