The burner needs fuel so go to a hardware store and get some.
Don't put the ceramic straight onto the flame, it will crack.
Use the stainless steel bowl for oil heating only.
The Ceramic bowl sits inside the stainless steel bowl.

How much will a fondue set cost me?

Fondue sets come in all shapes and sizes and it partly depends on you; how often do you plan to use it? Is it for just 2 of you or for a dinner party? Do you prefer cheese, meat or chocolate fondues.
With all these questions in mind, take a look at this amazon page for a range of prices;

Can you only heat fondues with tea lights or is there another way?

Tea lights are a common way of heating up fondue pots but you can also use alchohol fondue fuel or fondue gel which help keep the food hot and the cheese liquefied, but as they are highly flammable you have to be very careful about spillages.

Do you need a special fondue pot to heat up oil?

Generally a fondue pot can be used for many types of fondue ie meat, cheese etc. but if you're a fan of meat fondues that involve very hot oil to cook the meat, I would suggest buying a hot oil fondue set as it can withstand much hotter temperatures.

What is an electric fondue set?

A more traditional fondue involves putting a pot on top of a candle which keeps the contents of the pot hot. But a newer innovation is an electric fondue set which you just plug in and it keeps the pot heated at a constant temperature - you can choose the temperature to set it to.

Hi , I have recently purchased an Avanti Stockholm Collection Fondue set and was wondering what type of lighter fuild I should to use, as it came with no instructions. Belinda Currie

My favorite subject!!!!
Yessss !!! Fondue by candlelight, great conversation and soft background music.

What you need is not lighter fluid but methyl alcohol.
It's usuall labelled as "Fondue Fuel"
It is a blue colored liquid, and usually comes in 500ml plastic bottles.
It is available at supermarkets, and "Dollar stores" usually carry it for about $ 1.00

Needless to say, please read the Directions for Use.
Avoid contact with skin, and please read the First Aid Treatments.

If you need to refill the burner, DON'T do it while the burner is still hot.
Please wait until the burner is cool.

If you anticipate a longer session, a spare burner may be a good idea.

Enjoy!

Yum!!!

I have an avanti stockholm collection multi fondue set and I don't know what to use or how to heat up my chocolate, cheese etc?

Some hints.

Use methylated spirits of fuel for a spirit burner to keep the mix hot but heat it initially on a regular stove.

For chocolate, use the metal container in combination with the ceramic container to form a double boiler.

For cheese use the ceramic container on its own, taking care not to overheat, otherwise you get a singed bottom layer.

Swiss cheese fondue is something like this. Use Gruyere and Emmentaler in a ratio of about 1:4 (more Emmentaler). Some rub the inside of the pot with garlic before starting. Make a wine base by mixing a little wine with corn or potato starch, while waiting for the rest of the wine to heat to a simmer. Mix in the wine-starch mix to the hot wine, and cook until it thickens, then add the cheeses, and stir in well until they melt. Grate in nutmeg to taste, and add a splash of Kirsch (real Kirschwasser is not sweet: do not use an imitation or cherry liquer).

I don't have exact quantities so you will have to experiment. From memory, it goes something like this: about 200g Emmentaler, 50g Gruyere, 100ml wine, 10ml corn starch, 10ml Kirsch for around 6 people. I've seen recipes recommending more Grueyere but obviously that's not the real stuff because the geniune article is pretty strong, and more cheese per person. But I find in practice there's a limit to how much fondue most people can eat.
