Question about Singer Quantum 9920 Computerized Sewing Machine

1 Answer

The bobbin tension too tight on my Singer Quantum 9240. I believe there is a tension adjustment I can make on the bobbin case, but I have not been able to find my manual since we moved 2 months ago.

I am having this problem also; the thread catches in the **** in the bobbin. I am thinking maybe I am not threading the machine correctly--the bobbin area, not the top thread. I will try this & see if it fixes the problem. You may be doing the same as I am.

How do you get the bobbin thread to work on the singer quantum 9240.

Difficult to determine since we don't really know what exactly is happening with the machine.

You might try downloading a manual. Your particular model manual is not available, but the 9224 is probably very similar (at least, in how the bobbin works).

I have recently bought Singer Quantum 9940 and I am not happy with the stitch. For zigzag stitch, I can see too much of the upper thread on the bottom side. This happens unequally: more on the right hand...

1. Make sure your needle is correct for the fabric. Go buy some good needles in several sizes. You'll need a 90 for jeans, rounded points for fine fabrics... get a few sizes. Your manual should provided you with clues to the right needle for the fabrics. (BTW... there really is no such thing as a Universal Needle... toss it.)

2. Re-read your manual and carefully follow the instructions on threading the bobbin and the upper thread...

3. Check your tension on the upper thread... it is too loose for the application. The tension on the bottom thread is handled by a spring on your bobbin case or race. If you do not have that threaded properly you'll have problems. Same with the direction the bobbin turns... have in it backwards... problems.

Barring all these things... It might be time for a qualified Singer repair person to look at it. Sadly Singer has seriously lowered it's standards in the last 20 years.

I have a singer 4538 and the top tension is ok, I believe. The bobbin tension is too tight. I took out the bobbin case. It has two screws. The one on the left can be loosened, but doesn't help the...

one screw should stay tightned .. the other is the adjustment ... you will notice that the correct screw is adjusting the force on a flat spring .. that spring is what provides the bottom tension .. when the thread is properly positioned then it will be pulled under that spring .. you should be able to pull the thread with just a small amount of drag .. the top tensioner should have about the same amount of drag when set to about 2 of its adjustment range .. usually the foot has to be down to engage the top tension ... you normally dont need oil on the bobbin case .. the screw you want is about in the center of the flat spring ... if you cant adjust the bottom tension then take the flat spring all the way off and see if there is thread or debree keeping it from operating properly .. make sure there are no sharp edges or burrs in the thread path ...

Loopy thread during stitching

if loops appear on underside of fabric, make sure machine is threaded correctly (check instruction manual for threading). when presser foot is resting on feed dogs, needle thread should be quite tight when pulled through needle (needle should bend a little). if thread does not feel tight, check threading again and ensure thread is between tension discs (presser foot should be up for threading and then down to check tension). if threading is good and tension seting is at 5 but still not tight enough check no htread is caught in tension assembly. if tension assembly is clear try tightening needle thread tension to 6,7 or 8 and see if that helps.

if the above is correct check for damage to the needle hole in the needle plate and polish with fine emery tape if necessary.

if you still have trouble best see a technician for possible repair to bobbin case or hook/shuttle mechanism which you may damage trying to fix yourself.

Tension not correct

Just set the tension on the bobbin casing but very little at a time, to much and you will never get it wright again. Then also try the tension at the top after adjusting the bobbin casings tension.

Singer 221-1 stitching is good on bottom but not on top

pucker is caused by too loose or, to tight adjustment of: the thread tensioners both the bobbin tensioner and, the needle tensioner need to be adjusted: to adjust the needle tensioner turn the side knob clockwise is tighter counterclockwise loosens; the bobbin tensioner is a tiny screw on the bobbin holder adjust both tensioners until your stich loops' both top and, bottom are tight but, the machine does not break the thread
