Rechargeable batteries fail after a maximum number of deep-cycles. Letting the battery drain completely before recharging, will shorten it's lifespan compared to keeping it topped up frequently.
Replacement batteries can be found on Ebay and elsewhere.

I have a Compaq M700 lap top. power failure , Won't boot up ?

You need to find out if the power supply was damaged, it would have been the first to take a hit, remove the main battery to see if it will boot because a bad one will load the system down in some cases. One trick that might work, unplug power supply from laptop and remove main battery, now press and hold power for 2 minutes to drain off residual voltage and reset the processor, finally install everything back and power up.

Hi fhuseyin,

The easiest way to correct this issue is by performing a power drain. Please follow the steps below.

1. Turn off the system.

2. Unplug the AC adapter from the the power outlet.

3. Remove the battery from the unit.

4. Now, press the power button for about 15 - 20 seconds.

5. Put back the battery in and plug the AC adapter.

6. Turn on and observe the system.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Dropped lap top now wont boot up

press the fn key on laptop hold it down and then press the power key on the laptop. once u see any display on the screen you will get some tests running on the screen. The system will show you the error message which u need to note down. else you can do a Flea Power on your laptop. Remove the adapter and the battery and then press the power button and hold it down for 30 seconds then connect the battery and adapter back and try to turn on the laptop. See if the magic works for you

My lap top shuts it's self on am off

Try removing the battery and starting up only on AC power. You may have a faulty battery. It could also be the power supply or a bad memory chip. If it's none of these, then it's a motherboard problem.

It could be one of three things. It could be a bad battery, a bad ac adapter, or the recharging circuitry could be bad. I would try pulling the battery out, and see if the laptop will startup and run strictly off of the ac adapter. If that does not work, you have a bad ac adapter. If that works, and the battery has any charge left, try running it strictly on the battery. If it doesnt work, you have a bad battery. If it does work, the circuitry is bad and you will probably need new motherboard. One other thing you can check is where the ac adapter and battery plug into the laptop, and make sure there is no corrosion that could be causing a short.

Lap top battery dead?

Probably the extreme heat and dryness out there drained it out, and or not being able to recharge it to full capacity. Did you charge it the recommended hours to charge when first used as stated in the manual the battery?. If you have access to a freezer put the battery in a ziploc bag seal and leave in the freezer overnight then take out and charge your battery overnight it might come back to life and hold it's charge once again.
