How do I hook up my DSL modem to my old computer? I have an HP Pavilion Samsung SyncMaster 750s DESKTOP PC. I need to access the internet on my PC but it doesn't have an ETHERNET JACK. I also no longer...

Which HP Pavilion do you have? The Samsung SyncMaster 750s is your monitor. What OS is it running?

Most desktops that came with Windows 95-XP have a few PCI slots inside the box. Computers with Windows 98 (some with Windows 95B) have USB ports. (Older computers may also have ISA slots inside the box.)

If you have a USB port, you can use a USB to ethernet adapter. This will be limited to the speed of your USB (not a good choice if you have USB 1.1). The wired versions are limited to 10/100 Mbs maximum internet speeds. There are some wireless versions as well. See http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=589&name=10-100%20Ethernet%20USB for examples of wired adapters.

A better choice is the internal one. Again you need to check the specs for your computer and see if there are any available slots and the type on the motherboard. See HP support for the specs of the computer. Slim case formats often have few available slots. (You can usually remove the internal dial-up modem and replace it with the ethernet card.)

These are either wireless and wired. Some run at 1Gbs speed. You will also need a wireless router if you use a wireless card. (A router is a good idea even for a wired ethernet card. It provides protection against some internet problems.) A few PCI wired ethernet are available here: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=27&name=Network-Interface-Cards . Turn off the computer and unplug the wires to the computer. Open the case, remove the slot cover (or card that you will replace), push the new card into the slot and secure it. Then close the computer and connect your wires. Install the drivers (usually from a CD that will come with the card or by downloading from the manufacturer's site). Then plug an 8-wire RJ-45 cable into the jack and your broadband modem. Then set up following the directions for your ethernet system (dynamic (DHCP) or static IP address, etc). (Wireless networks you install the antenna for the card and then follow the setup instructions for your wireless router. This will include the password.)

I hope this helps.

Wireless Printer Issue.

As I understand your issue, the HP Laserjet 1020 is a USB printer. You have it attached to a desktop PC. If that PC is rebooted, you can print for a short while.
The problem is probably not your network, but your desktop.
I would do the routine maintenance on it. Clear all the temp files, check hard drive free space and defrag the drive.
Then get online and download Malwarebytes.org spyware malware scanner tool. Scan the desktop PC for malware and clear out anything that may be occupying the resources of this PC.

Our HP desktop and Dell laptop are both connected to a AT&T 2 wire router/modem. The desktop is connected to an Epson non-wireless printer. How can we print wireless from the laptop? The laptop is...

You have to install the relevant drivers FIRST (Just install without printer thats fine) on the host & clients and then make sure you "Share" the printer on the Host setup. (The one where the printer is attached). Then on the clients you install a "Networked" printer and "Find" it on the network. Now ALL the PC's need to be in same"Workgroup" and have "Sharing" enabled on each machine, they all must have a name & password too..

WIRELESS ADAPTOR CONNECTS TO REUTER BUT NOT TO INTERNET

If you connect the computer to the router with the cable , does it
work ? If yes then
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the
wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not
typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless
settings .

Internet connection

The only way to replace the network card is to replace the logic board in this unit, however if you are running 10.5, you can purchase an external USB to ethernet adapter at a local Apple retailer and you can hook the computer to the network through that adapter

D-link router DI524 using next G external wireless modem

You can purchase a usb wireless dongle and attach to the PC. From then onwards you can set up a wireless network without connecting the usb cable for the router. The dongle will enable wireless capabilities on the pc. The only thing left is to have all devices running in the same workgroup.
