Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Hoover 5050ED doesn't seem capable of taking a full washing load. It's almost like the motor has/is losing power. When you start the dryer it's like the motor can't start rotating, until you only have about 4-5 items left in there.

HOOVER AUTO DRY 5050ED KEEPS STOPPING

hi there, I have repaired many of these dryers. It will be a faulty heater element, most likely. They cost about $40. If you get a tradesman to fit it, they will prob charge you about $200 all up. Maybe its better to buy a new dryer for around $300? Good luck.

Our Hoover (3535d) dryer tumbler does not want to spin although you can hear the motor starting. The load does not appear to matter. There is no sign of belt slipping. Can the problem be due to the start...

If you hear the motor starting then it normally wouldn't be the start capacitor. It is when it doesn't start that you suspect the capacitor.

If your motor is turning and belt is NOT slipping then your drum should be turning! Those things do tell you that your electronic (control board and timer) are good, but you are wrong about either the motor or the belt!

5050ed buzzes onstart up ,needs little manual turnover to start

it can be the idler pulley that tightens the drum belt, the drum belt itself has gotten old and glazed from age,or the motor that turns the drum the bearings can be getting dried out from age and heat and getting tight requiring help to start, also the motor start switch on this motor can be getting bad contacts inside this switch, all these issues require you to dismantle the unit to some extent to check them

It sounds like your motor is faulty and cannot handle the load resistance.
You need to have the motor changed or have a Whirlpool engineer come and take a look

Fitting the belt to the hoover 5050ed

nope,, but
all dryers are generically the same
remove the front panel and door
pull the drum
loop the belt around the drum, at apporximately the wear marks of the old belt
reinsert the drum
loop the belt around the motor pulley
pull the tensioner pulley hard against the spring to the end of its travel
loop the belt around the tensioner pulley
allow the tensioner to move back under spring pressure to tension the belt
rotate the drum by hand to make sure the belt is aligned and not coing to jump off the pulleys
reinstall front panel & door
26740a0.jpg the tensioner may be on the bottom belt run pusshing up, or the top run pulling down
breaking belts sometimes pull the tensioner out of its mounts, there is only one place that the tensioner will reinstall.

Its a standard whirpool dryer, rebadged as hoover, so the local parts guy has the belts rollers felts and glides as necessary, they are common to all the dryers whirlpool makes.

Hoover 5050ed clothes dryer/tumble dryer

If the dryer hasn't been mounted before, you'll need to punch the blank slots through. At the bottom of the dryer (because you wall mount it up-side-down, so these slots will then be at the top), you'll see a vertical hole in one layer of the metal on the back to each side. Knock these through to reveal the holes where the bracket can go in. You'll also want to replace the control panel decal with the wall mount one that has all the controls up the correct way when wall mounted.
