How to know if relay starter is defective?

wont crank? Check fuses first? (USA answers)
use the scan tool and get P1500" starter signal dead?
which engine, 1.6L or 1.8L which trans, A/T or M/T (auto./stick)
did you try cranking in Neutral (guessing A/T)??
the relay with 2 white wires, it is.
the USA left drivers side fuse box. is WHERE it is.
if you hot wire the starter and it cranks its, ok the starter
if car cranks in Neutral the PRNDL switch is bad.
if the relay below has 12vdc on coil or 11v, cranking
voltmeter across coil and output contact is dead the relay is bad.
if no 12v across , that means bad key line (PNRLD) or bad ignition switch, (hot wired starter works, is base line 1st test)

Did you check ground strap between Eng. block and ext. fire wall ?

the only fuse for the starter is not located in the fuse box it is located in the positive wires that go to the starter its called a fusible link and when then amperage of the starter exceeds the fusible link rating the fusible link blows the link is usually located inthe positive wire to the starter and at some point fatter then the wire itself

follow the big positive cable from the battery, it always ends at the starter, Why are you looking for it?

check neutral safety switch...usually mounted on gear selector...also check shift linkage for correct adjustment

Look to the rear of the engine way down low by the fly wheel. Good luck.

yes from 1993 thru 1997 everything is interchangable

I fiqured it out, the starter fuse on 95 geo is bolted in. you have unbolt the fuse box under the hood. you have to push the fuses out the bottom, patience is the key it doesn't push easily,once you have it pushed out remove the bottom cover and remove a 8mm and 10mm bolt.reverse to install

use a tension puller it is a special tool to adjust tension on the pulley
