Mcdevito75 here, Yes and No, While any sharp, sudden, or very hard motion of your hand, wrist or arm can hurt a watch, it seldom does, most of the time you"d have to actually bang the watch against a hard surface, Wall, Floor etc to effct the movement, and usually you just scratch the crystal or caseing. .

My watch keeps stoping but my battery is new

If your watch keeps time for a while, then stops and starts erratically, you most likely have one of several common problems.
1. You might have a bad battery. Sounds silly, but watch batteries have a limited shelf life, and if you installed a battery that's already been in a blister pack for a few years, the battery itself could be the problem.
2. Your "set stem" is not completely pushed in. Quartz watches are designed to stop ticking when the set stem is pulled out. They'll start up again when you push the stem completely in. There's a little finger or spring-loaded prong to keep the stem in or out. Sometimes, that little prong can break off from natural use. When that happens, the stem will work itself out enough to stop the watch from ticking. Natural movement on your hand will push it back in, and the movement will take off again. Check to see that you feel a firm "click" when you push the stem all the way in. Sometimes, when changing a battery, the movement will shift inside the case just enough that the stem doesn't quite catch in the locked, "full-in" position.
3. Your battery has a bad connection. Make sure that the positive and negative terminals of the battery are in good contact with the appropriate surfaces. I have used a tiny piece of aluminum foil at times to increase pressure on the watch battery so that it makes better contact.
4. Your watch movement has dirt in it that is jamming the gears. Modern quartz watches are amazing devices--a tiny amount of force from the pulse motor operates an intricate gear system that moves all the watch hands and day/date wheels. Even a tiny speck of dust in the wrong place on a gear can gum up the works and cause a watch to start and stop. Usually this will happen at set time intervals or at the same time every day, because that's when a particular gear tooth comes into play.
Closely related to this is an actual bent or broken gear tooth. Same symptoms.
A watchmaker can test the gear train by placing your watch in a special testing machine that spins the gears much faster than usual. If the watch hangs up from time to time, it's suggestive of problems in the gear train. Sadly, fixing the problem by cleaning the watch may cost more than replacing the entire watch.
These are the most common causes for this behavior. Hands that rub up against one another, or a defective quartz crystal are two other potential causes, but this should serve as a fairly good checklist for obvious problems.
Good luck!

I didn't wear my Michele CSX 36 w/ diamond watch for a few days..When I went to put it on the time was wrong. So I tried to correct it and now it has not kept accurate time w/in a 24 hr period. Fo

I am pretty 100 percent sure that Michele CSX 36 diamonds only comes with a swiss quartz movement not an automatic movement.
So the problem seems to be that the battery is dying and need to be replaced. Stopping and going is usually a sign of a battery dying in a swiss quartz movement.
So it should be nothing major and just a battery.

The scond hand on my tag formula 1 has stopped and wont resest, but the watch still works with the time. What could the likely problem be? Could it be the battery? or could it need servicing?

Sean, This watch has a disposable movement(guts). That means the battery is the only part that can be replaced. The thing is glued together instead of screwed. Take it to a watchmaker that can get the replacement movement from Tag as the ordinary movements out there are different from the genuine Tag movements. Date wheels specifically are different. Anyway, a professional watchmaker, not a jeweler or store clerk please, will be able to tell you if that is the correct course of events to take. I just replaced the battery on a fossil watch and it won't work. How to you reset it? or what else needs to be done? Please help me. thanks.

mcdevito75 here, Your Fossil watch should work with the battery change, of course it will need to be re-set. You"ll have to double check the battery install, make sure the battery contacts are clean, use a piece of paper towel and carefully clean the battery contacts. Hopefully your new battery is not dead. Another thing to check for, is that the buttons contacts are lined up with the quartz movement. While you double check your battery install, carefully press 1 button at a time, and make sure each button is making contact with the quartz mechanism, many times during a battery change to quartz movement may move just slightly but enough to keep the buttons from contacting the movement, this will keep the watch from working. Hopefully 1 or all of these is the answer for your Fossil watch.

Tag Heuer Tiger Wood Golf WAE1111.FT6004 Watch stops when not worn. Is there a problem

Hi,

An automatic watch needs to be worn, wound daily or placed on a watch winder to keep it going. It is not like a quartz watch that has a battery and can keep going when not worn. A modern automatic watch will run for about 36 - 48 hours on a full wind.

A quartz watch that stops like you describe is in need of a cleaning by a professional watchmaker. When this stopping occurs it is an indication the oils have dried out and the warmth from your body heats them so they are semi liquid again and the watch runs. but when the watch cools again the oils harden and the watch stops.

Hope this helps,

My husband purchased a new PS watch, that doesn't need batteries, but is suppose to stay going by movement. The problem is it stops all of the time if he is not actively moving.

Kinetic dive watches utilize motion, or kinetic energy from watch or hand movement. If there is inadequate movement to keep the watch going.

RECOMENDATION:

1. Involve some much needed physical movement (Physical Training) that will both help the wearer and the watch with the watch being the judge of if he is moving enough every day?

2. Get a battery powered watch.

Number one is a better solution.

Hope this tip helps.

My watch has stopped keeping time but i can still hear it clicking. The indiglo still works as well so its not the battery. i will change the time and it will work again untill about 30 seconds to 1 minute...

Quartz watches do get gummy or dirty gears and slow down or just quit. I know that I have the cleaning chemicals that generally works to unstick the gears, but I also have the equipment that pulses the watch with enough power to get the mechanism working again. If that doesn't work then it's time to replace the movement with a new one. This is generally cheaper than spending lots of money on the labor to get the old movement working again. Best of luck on this one.

CY2068 HOW DO YOU CHANGE DATE AND DAY

Pull the crown half way out to set the date. To set the day, keep advancing the time - 24 hours for each day. The day will change at midnight each 24 hours. It's a time consuming but one-time-only effort as long as the battery is good.

I believe you are just outside your warranty. Its time to see a watch maker/technician about repairing the watch. Often times slowing is as easy to fix as lubricating the movement and forcing the gear train through the use of a cyclonic device. This fix takes minutes and is very cost effective. If the slowing is due t circuit board issues or a more sever gear train problem then the movement will need to be overhauled. I suggest comparing this cost to the cost of a replacement movement.
