Question about Hampton Bay Dryers

2 Answers

I have a Hampton Bay 3-way fan with lights. I recently tried to switch the fan with the chain. The chain wouldn't retract. I can no longer switch the setting. I bought a replacement switch, 3-way, 4-wire switch. I replaced it properly with the Orange wire going to pin 1, Purple to 2, Yellow to 3, and Black to "L". Now I can pull the new chain and it retracts with each pull, but I only get HIGH and LOW. I can't switch to MED or OFF. Help

    I made all the connections correctly. Orange-1, Purple-2, Yellow-3, and Black-L.
Connections are solid. I still only get low and high speeds. No medium or stopped.
I've done this at least three times with other fans over the year. It's not a difficult repair. This one's got me stumped. Is it possible something else in the housing has gone bad?

Re arrange your wiring there is a problem on it.try to figure out the neural terminal of the switch.let me elaborate the wiring for you so that you'll understand the proper connection of the motor.
Let us label the power cord as L1 and L2 this is the input power from the wall out let. The line goes directly to the motor L1 terminal. The L2 should be soldered to the neutral terminal of the switch. S1,S2, S3 are the speed selector of the switch. The operation of the switch is once the speed button switch is pressed example S1 this switch connects directly to neutral button which we labeled L2 then the current flows to the motor from the wall outlet.and the fan starts up.likewise with the S2 and S3.good luck hope i helped you .pls post a comment if you have any clarification so i can help you further

Hello,

I advice you check the connection very well, are all the wires connected very well?, are all the wires touching their connectors? if yes, i would suggest you disconnect all the wires and reconnect them back, if the problem still persist, compare the new switch with the old one to see if they are of the same ratings, if not, return and get the exact switch for the unit.

Take care.

I've been very careful connecting. Matched the new switch just like the one I took out. The wires are firmly seated. This is now the second new switch. The first new switch gave me exactly the same response. I certainly couldn't have two bad new switches with the same issue.

I'm not sure about this switch, but I do know that places like home depot do have replacement parts for fixtures and fans. Otherwise try a lighting store. They'd probably be able to get you replacement parts, especially with a brand like hampton bay.

Hampton Bay ceiling fan with pull chains not working

Whether there is a reset switch on this unit or not would depend on the model. If you no longer have the owners manual you should be able to get it from the hampton web site. Many fans have a thermal fuse inline that probably was blown when the bulb broke. The cheaper models do not and then I would guess you burned out the switch.
