Question about KitchenAid KBLO36FMX Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

I have a KitchenAid bottom mount built-in refrigerator. It started beeping this morning and the displays for freezer and refrigerator would flash. Now the beeping is gone and the displays are not working. What is wrong?

Are any of the fans running? Compressor running? Or is the unit completley dead? See caution below!!!!! Remove J2 connector from the main board. Check for resistance between the white wire and red wire on harness Is the resistance approximately 1.5K ohms to 3K ohms? Condenser fan OK! Measure the resistance directly at the Condenser fan motor! Is the resistance approximatelty 1.5K ohms to 3K ohms? Yes fan motor is electrically ok No =0pen Fan Motor Winding Does the condenser fan motor read open? Does the condenser fan motor read shorted ( below 1K ohm of short to motor case?) Replace the condenser fan motor Check for voltage at main board J2. Is there at least 12VDC between pins 3 - 5 and between 3 - 8? Yes= main board OK Condensor motor stalled ! Repair or replace condenser motor. Check voltage at main board J2. Is there at least 12VDC between pins 3 and 5 ? Yes is good! No=Replace main board and the condenser fan motor Caution: Unplug power when disconnecting and connecting connectors on the board. I am not posting this as a solution due to the lack of information as to what is working or not working. This is my best "how to" at the moment. If you need more information or provide more symptoms I can most likely provide more assistance. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Kelly

SOURCE: My KitchenAid KBRS22K bottom mount refrigerator is

the problem here is the defrost element is not coming on, the problem is the control board in the fresh food compartment is defective and not telling the element to defrost. Therefore your cooling coils are impacted with ice which keeps freezer cold, and sensor in freezer says everything is ok and therefore sends nothing to refrigerator. Replace the defrost control board, Thaw out the cooling coils in freezer, and your back in business

SOURCE: New Kitchenaid refrigerator often makes sharp bang noise.

I have an old Amana bottom freezer that does that. It's because the defrost heaters are doing their job and the area around them as well as the coil is expanding rapidly. Try making certain that the cabinet is level and not on an unsteady footing. You might want to try turning the T stat in the freezer to a lower setting. Usually between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 works best in all freezers. If none of this helps and the banging continues, get used to it or get another fridge. It seems to be a failing in bottom freezer models for some reason. It's harmless but annoying. I actually know someone who says she has the ghost of a frozen turkey stuck in her freezer that's trying to get out! LOL!

The temperature control lights going on and off. Plus there is a beeping sound. So far it's still cold but I just noticed it this morning.

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

Power and no lites in refrig/freezer; beeping

depending on age of unit, the problem may lie in the light bulb, well the door closing anyway, the newer unit s actuall will shut down all interior lights, in the evnet that teh door is left open for more then 2-3 min, so its possible that a light switch is not being activated so the uit thinks the door is open and has shut down the rest of lights, cooling however does continue normally.

Freezer temperature display keeps flashing

on the main circuit board on top of the fridge is a button with "test" on it. hold that in for a few sec, it should start beeping at you. push it again and it will beep again, do this about 4 time till it goes quite. this may fix it but the reason for it is prob your sensor is covered in ice, you need to leave it off with the doors open. there are 2 drain pipes at the back of the fridge ( bottom ) defrost it till no more water comes out of these, when you think its done, leave it for a few more hours and if any water comes out your not defrosted yet--- mine took almost 3 days.
