Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

KCMS135GBL0 Aren't these interlocking switches there to assure the door is closed, before the microwave is able to turn on??? Or do they actually actuate the latch itself?

My rhetorical question was in response to the person whom was suggesting I purchase a pair of switches to fix the door that is not opening by pushing the release button. Just by looking at the switches, seeing where they were positioned, and when they are actuated, I knew what they were for, but thanks for trying to help.

They are there to prevent it from running while the door is open.

The hooklike projections on the door go into the door switch mounts and latch the door closed, and at the same time they activate the switches.

Okay, here's the answer you really need then! :)

You likely need a new "release lever". It's the part that the release button pushes against.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Also at our Web site, we now have a video showing how to remove a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order the part by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful (revised) rating of our answer. *grin*

How to fix loud hum and no heating in Sharp model R-308KW?

Hi,
There could be a variety of reasons why this happens, but the likeliest
reason is the secondary interlock or monitor switch is broken. These are micro switches that tell the microwave that the door is closed. If this switch is broken, then the microwave thinks the door is still open and the carousel table won't turn, and the oven will not heat up.
I replaced an interlock switch last Saturday. The switch was $7.00 and took me an hour.
Ask your local repair person to test the interlock and monitor switches first, then go from there.
Good luck,
Hank

Unit starts automatically when door is closed

please review this and fix it. God bless you

  1. Interlock switchIf your microwave is turning itself on, the first thing to check is the interlock switch. This is usually the first thing to malfunction that could cause this issue. If the interlock switch is bad then it will need to be replaced.
  2. Main control boardIf your microwave is turning itself on and the interlock switch is still working, the probable cause is the main control board. If the control board is defective it will need to be replaced.

I have to press up on the door to make it heat

    Rich,

It sounds like there is an issue with the interlock latch or switch that allows the inverter to operate. Check the following:

The door hinges to be sure they aren't loose, misaligned or bent.

Check the latch on the door to be sure it engages the cam inside the main unit solidly and that there isn't any play in the door. Also check the door gasket to make sure it isn't preventing the door from closing properly. Since you said the unit was over the stove, things can become misaligned from the stovetop heat.

You may be able to able to fix this, but it may require partial disassmebly of the microwave. If you are unfamiliar with this type of service, it's best left to a trained service tech.

You should disconnect the power before attempting any repairs.

After shutting the door and starting the microwave oven a "popping" noise was heard and the microwave oven went dead. What do I do?

I suspect your oven has a stuck interlock monitor switch. This is one of several switches inside that are operated by the door latches, and its contacts are supposed to open when you close the door. If the switch is stuck or is out of adjustment, it will cause the fuse to blow when you start the cook cycle. If there isn't any other cause for the fuse blowing, the switch can be adjusted or replaced as required. Microwaves are dangerous to work on, and door repairs can result in microwave leakage if they aren't done correctly. You should let a professional do the repair if you want to keep this oven.

GE Advantium Microwave section doesn't work.

The primary interlock switch on my Advantium has failed twice. The replacement part is available at: appliancepartspros.com part no. for my Advantium was AP2622452 and it cost $11.74 + $6.95 shipping.

For what it's worth, my nylon connector and wire covering were also scorched a bit but the last primary interlock switch lasted me for over a year.

Please note that I am not an expert at repairing appliances and that I assume no responsibility or liability for any attempt you may make to repair your own appliance.
