Question about Denon DRA-375RD Receiver

1 Answer

I have been told that the way I set up my DRA-375RD could damage the receiver. I added a sub-woofer to the one of the speaker outlets. Today, the right side speakers no longer function (both sets of speakers). Could the addition of the sub-woofer have caused the problem? Or, what could be the cause?

Most subs are 4 ohm cabinets. That being said, if you added this to one of the channels alone, fine. If added while another speaker was also connected (A+B mode) and the other was a 4 ohm cab as well, then yes, you probably smoked that channel. The two 4-ohm cabs in parallel like that appear to the amp like a 2-ohm load. This amp is designed for a 4-ohm load minimum. It is likely that the output stage overheated and damaged the output transistors. I would have expected the amp to go into protect mode though. Let the receiver cool down and try again. If it works, then the problem is the low load and removing the sub will "fix" it. If not, then further examination of the output stage will be necessary.

I just bought a subwoofer and I cannot get it to work. I changed the receiver setting to SW = YES. Where is the correct place to plug it in the receiver, there are two subwoofer outlets.

Here's your manual. Check Pg. 9 for correct Sub Woofer connection. Leave the SW=YES setting as is if you any small speakers in the system. It can be set to SW=PLUS if you want all bass signals sent to the Sub Woofer. It should only be set to SW=NO if no Sub Woofer is connected. Experiment between the YES and PLUS settings and leave it where it sounds best to you.

If this was helpful, please rate it "4 thumbs up" - thanks & good luck!

How to hookup

hi,
if u want to hook up the sub with ur av receiver the connect the sub woofer output of ur AVR to any one (left or right) input of ur sub woofer. then connect its power . set the frequency range between 90 and 120Hz. set the volume of sub woofer to 40% of its total. also check the av receives speaker setting. goto speaker setup and make ON the sub woofer out.

if want to connect the sub to a stereo amp without sub out. then connect the amps speaker line to the speaker input of sub woofer and connect the speaker out of sub to left and right speaker ( make sure to connect the red to red and black to black). set the volume and frequency as above
ok

There is no output specific to a subwoofer. What is the correct sequence to do so? Downloaded manual does not help. The Energy sub-woofer has an amp input connection, but no output.

It probably does not need one. I have two receivers that have 5.1 inputs (the .1 is the subwoofer) with jst normal 5 speaker output... none for the subwoofer. That is because the speakers these days almost always have built in crossovers to split the freqs up and send the right freq @ power to the right speaker.

Just buy some speakers and don't worry about it. Look for warranty. Radio Shaft used to have 5 year warranteed speakers -- extremely good for the speaker market. I like bose and I hear infinity is another reasonble priced but well designed brand.

How do I hook up a non powered sub woofer on my htr-5630?

You will need an amplifier or 2 channel receiver. Hook the sub out rca jack to the rca inputs on this new amp or receiver and hook the speaker terminals on sub to speaker terminals on same amp or receiver. Your Yamaha receiver doesn't have any power for a passive sub.Just pick up any old fairly high powered receiver for fifty dollars and you're good to go.I use old dolby pro logic receivers as they are a dime a dozen today. Good luck.

Thank you for responding. I called in an audio specialist to look at the whole system--he believes there is a problem with the amplifier. Will post what he finds out when he looks inside.

Connection of a subwoofer to Yamaha ZX-V490

Get a powered sub-woofer that has speaker level inputs, then run your front speaker wires into the sub-woofers speaker level input and then run a set of speaker wires from the sub-woofers speaker wire output to your front speakers. This is a common way to use a sub-woofer with a receiver that doesn't have a sub-woofer output.

Most powered sub-woofers have these connections, just check it out first before you buy one. They look like speaker jacks on the back of the receiver.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
