What is your refresh rate set to? At the desktop, with no windows open, right click the mouse and a dialog window will open. Click on properties, then the settings tab at the top, then another window will open. Click on monitor then at the bottom of the new window click on advanced. Check the refresh rate and change it to a lower rate and see what happens. You might even raise it. I hope this helps.

    Correction, when clicking on settings, then click on advanced at the bottom right, then monitor. The refresh rate is located there.

Acer al1916w a lcd monitor power up and shut down

It probably has porblem in the power supply/inverter board, you need to look for bad caps with domed tops, bad MOSFET in the inverter circuits, inverter transformer

I got an Acer AL1916W 19" when I turn it on, It

Inspect the caps first.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

How do you hook up sound to the computer. I have

The ACER AL1916W does not have built-in speakers, you need to get powered speaker system for your PC.
This is the spec of the AL1916W: http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/acer-al1916w-lcd-display/4507-3174_7-31652355.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav

How long should my Acer AL1916W last, I bought it a little over a year ago and It's dead?

In my mind everything should last forever but cause most everything is manufactured overseas in bulk, there is bound to be problems cause of lack of quality checks and recalls.

In your case cause there is no power then its either going to be bad caps on the power board or a bad lcd that is shorting out the monitor.

Either way it would be more cost effective to buy a new monitor unless you have good soldering skills to where you can look for puffy caps and replace them with caps of the same value.

caps=capacitors
