Red bar/green bar on left side of vizio plasma

Hi
I noticed you posted a response to my problem on fixya. We have two bars side by side on the left side of the screen. They're each about 1" and about 2" in from the left. Originally just a green bar appeared and would disappear for periods of time. Then the red appeared and it also disappears from time to time. We contacted vizio and they attempted to help in emails. They recommend either the TCP connector or the XRBT board. I have no idea what either are. The tv is only about 2.5 years old. Does their solution sound right? And is it worth fixing? Thanks a bunch

I have two red lines running vertical on each side of the screen and now a new green line has appeared on the right side of the screen.  I email Vizio about the problem and they have not even written back.  While I was at their web site I read about their great support. But they won't respond at all. My screen is only a year old.  Would love to get a solution. Other wise it looks like I am stuck with expensive junk. Thanks for nothing Vizio.  I could find better treatment in a bad part of town.

POSSIBLE solution:
We have the same problem on our 42" Vizio plasma screen. I've had many conversations with the tech at Vizio, and they said it's an inherent problem with the screen (whatever that means) that can't be fixed, or is not worth fixing (as another comment says).

But...when a cable guy came to install a new dish, I told him about it, and he said he's seen it before on other plasmas, and that it may be caused by the sound speakers being placed either too near or in the wrong position near the tv.

He said there are magnets in the speakers that will throw off something in the screen.

We have a Bose sound system, and so we tried repositioning the speakers and subwoofer. The line did go away, but then came back. It comes and goes.

Who can figure this out? Well, for what it's worth, try repositioning your sound speakers.

I BELIEVE THE TCP CONNECTOR WILL BE THE RIBBON CABLE ATTACHED TO THE XRBT BOARD AND IM PRETTY SURE THEY ARE NOT REPLACEABLE (IF IM THINKING CORRECTLY. THE XRBT BOARD WILL BE THE THIN BOARD AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PANEL THERE WILL PROBOBLY BE 2-4 OF THEM THEY HANDLE THE VIRTICLE PIC. SO GO FOR THE BOARD DIRECTLY UNDER THE LINES. IT SHOULD BE PRETTY CHEAP UNDER $50.

it sounds like the problem is with the xrbt board or its ribbon connector most of the time its the connector which is not replaceable it is part of the panel which probably costs as much as the tv did. so the question is do you want to spend the money to try something that may not work?

It sounds like a buffer board fault. If you wish to get more details, check http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ this link. It has screen shots to many faulty stages of plasma displays. Compare them to that of yours, and make sure about which board will have the fault. Pull up older posts by its left side bar.

Tv will not power up, and before it stopped it ha a green vertival bar on the left side of the screen.

You probably has X left drive board problem and also the power supply module. I would check out all of these boards at the same time for blown fuses, ICs, caps in the power supply, X drive left, center, right ICs, Z- sustain, and Y sustain boards.

P2 42HD - Picture OK on right half ... vertical bars & black on left side

I just got quoted $705 from the Vizio certified repair partner. Nice. Nice and way too expensive. I may as well buy a new TV instead. It certainly won't be a Vizio. They told me a I needed a Y systainer, C systainer and a right-driver board.

Lame. I'm trying to find something local.

Red line on screen

I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago.  While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V..  As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected.  It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case;  When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables.  Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.
Hope this makes sense.
