Question about Sony Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was given a laptop that does not have an ethernet driver. I am attempting to download one off my desktop from the internet onto a thumb drive, but am having trouble finding one that doesn't want to automatically install on the wrong computer. Once I get the laptop online I can update everything, but I can't get online. The OS has not even been registered, which complicates things.

You dont mention the laptops make/model.
Are you choosing save or run when downloading the file, you need to choose save.
Before you bother to try, you need to sort out the activation/registering on the laptops OS. If you dont have a valid key you may need to re install the OS with one that you do have a key for or you can activate

I do not have the ethernet drivers installed in my emachine e732z laptop. please assist?

You will need to use another PC with internet access to get onto the emachines web site and download the ethernet drivers located here. Driver will vary depending whether you are running the 32 bit or 64 bit version of the OS.

I installed windows 7 home professional 32bit on to my acer aspire one happy last night to replace an illegal OS but now i cannot access the internet as my ethernet is not working. it tells me to download...

Your going to have to use a different computer to download the Drivers you need and put them on a thumb drive so they can be installed on your computer. Win 7 will not use the drivers that weren't made for Win 7 at all.

Laptop was looping on updates part 3 could not get to home page. so f12 and reloaded o/s and drivers discs.now cant get on internet says driver and network adaptor is not installed. Tried drivers disc...

Look in the device manager and see if your network devices are listed or have yellow triangles by them. Since you are typing this I am assuming you have a laptop to use to access the internet. Below are the drivers for your system or at least the links to the drivers. Download them onto a flash or thumb drive. Go to the device manager on your laptop and uninstall all the network adapters listed there. You can keep the drivers if it says that they are there. Reboot the laptop with the thumb drive in a usb slot. Windows will recognize the adapters and want to search for the drivers for them, let windows search first, if it doesn't see the drivers then go into "My computer" find the thumb drive, open it and manually install the adapter software drivers on the thumb drive. If you are not sure which wireless device you have, don't worry...while you are installing the software will tekk you whether it finds the device or not. There are several wireless adapters available for that laptop, so just download all the software and run it all. I would run the wired driver first, that way you can at least get connected via an ethernet cable then run windows update and get the rest of the drivers by hittong custom on the update window and looking through all the optional updates...those include all the updates for your hardware. Links are below.....You didn't specify what operating system you had, so just pick your operating system when the link comes up, it will be a drop down list on the page, then pick your driver downloads and that's it.

I unistalled the ethernet driver from my sons computer

If the ethernet port is on the motherboard (if it is near the keyboard and mouse plugin) you should find the make and model of the motherboard, go to the manufacturer's website on another computer and look for "Driver Downloads".

If the ethernet port is on a card that plugs into your motherboard (if it is down towards the bottom of the computer in a slot area) you should find out the manufacturer and model number of the card and proceed to their website from another computer.

Once you've downloaded the appropriate driver, you can use your flash drive to transfer it over to the computer in need.

Reinstalled windows on Dell laptop, can't get to internet

You were on the right track.

Take the files you downloaded from the other computer and place them onto the thumb drive.

Take them to the other computer.

Copy the files to the desktop.

Most Dell Drivers are .exe packages so just double-click each one and follow the prompts.

If you get stuck or have questions just add another comment and I'll respond.

Best of luck!

Ethernet

If you have access to another computer with internet (friend, relative, neighbor, etc...), get a USB flash drive or thumb drive (2 or 4 GB can be found for around $10 - $15), then follow these steps:

1. locate your express service tag code, usually found on a sticker somewhere on the computer's case, and write it down.
2. go to Dell's support website: http://support.dell.com
3. Click "Drivers and Downloads"
4. Choose "By Service Tag"
5. Enter your Express Service Tag and click GO
6. Scroll down to "Network"
7. Download the "Recommended" driver and save it to the USB flash drive.

Take the USB flash drive back to your computer, open it in Windows Explorer, then double click the downloaded file and follow the installation directions from there.

You could also do the same with a CD-R if you don't have a thumb drive, but it's a bit more involved.
