Question about Samsung S1030 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Low Battery When turning the camera on, the screen often says "Low Battery", even if the batteries are brand new. The problems seems to last a few hours, then it turns on as normal. I have tried cleaning the contacts and the battery tubes, but nothing obvious seems to cause it, or solve it. Sometimes, it cuts out to "Low Battery" in the middle of taking photos, when the charge indicator on the screen has just been at full. Someone else asked this question on-line, but had no replies, and a friends camera (S series, but not the 1030) does exactly the same thing. Any suggestions. Many thanks

Try going to a service shop and asking to reinstall the firmware, this can fix the problem

Hello. Remove the batteries and use the eraser on the end of a common pencil to clean the contacts. Then replace the batteries and turn it on. J.

Battery life

The rechargeables are only meant to last a couple years maximum (pretty good that you got three out of them). Also rechargeable NiMH's have approximately 5 times the power of standard alkaline batteries. Alkaline batteries should only be used in emergencies in digital cameras as they will only last for a short while before they are drained (as you've discovered).

The obvious solution is that it's time to consider purchasing a new set of rechargeable NiMH batteries. Look on the package for a power rating of at least 2,500 mah. Avoid batteries that do not list the power rating as they are generally inferior batteries.

Call Flip support, problems are happening to too many people, contact Flip support, if they cannot help, contact MacWorld or other online reviewers and let them know.

Battery keeps dying

Most likely the charging circuitry has failed. When you fully charge the new battery what does the battery meter read on the camera? Your two options no matter what the case are repair vs. replacement. If you need further assistance let me know.

Canon PowerShot A630 power problem: NiMH batteries no longer work

I dont agree, I have tried several different batterie types and the batteries are draining almost instantly with the camera and they are not actually being drained. I think the camera itself is at the end of its life...as I have used rechargeable batteries for the last few years and now they wont even show as being charged on the camera. It stinks Im in your same spot now...no batteries are lasting even the brand new lithium ones...it has nothing to do with the battery "juice" but something with the canon supply power not recognizing/recieving the juice. Im not a canon expert, but I think the problem is more than the battery here Steve and im confused at the solution as well.

Low Battery Indcator Flashes

You can check the status of your battery, including chargeble life remaining, in the Setup Menu. You need to have the CSM/Setup menu option to display Full menus, not Simple, in order to get battery status. So see if that battery status selection says you need to replace the battery.

Since you can shake the camera to get full battery, it's possible the battery contacts (on the battery or in the camera) are dirty, so check that.

If you do need a new battery, spend the few extra bucks to get a genuine Nikon EN-EL3e from a Nikon dealer. I have learned that many off-brand batteries do not properly implement a needed reserve, and "Genuine Nikon" batteries bought online from non-dealers are often counterfeit, just relabeled junk.

No battery life

If you have changed to new batteries and it still shows low battery warning, the camera may need the repair service.

Here is the information from Canon's support page.

Change battery message

I am experiencing exactly the same problem with my Canon Powerhot S2IS. I tried the same thing to remedy it by cleaning off the contacts, but no luck. And it's not simply a cold weather problem. My camera does this with brand new Duracell batteries as well as with freshly recharged NMH batteries. What gives? I've had the camera for nealy 2 years and have taken excellent care of it.
