Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a Bosh DLX Series dishwasher, about 6 yrs old. The filter is clean, there are no cracks on the cleaning arm, the hook ups are all good to the sink, the temperature of the water is hot (fine) BUT we are not getting a clean rinse out of it. there is residue that's left on the glasses making them look cloudy. We have rinse agent in the dispenser. Please help. Thanks, Deana

HI. This is essentially caused by a slow build up of calcium deposits that can accumulate overtime. The deposits will build up in the recirculation hoses and inside the dishwasher, as well. This build up will induce the cloudy, filmy substance you see after the rinse cycle. I recommend to purge all hoses(drainage and recirculation). Once you have purged the hoses properly, Kindly purchase a dishwasher cleaner(calcium remover). There are a few out there. I would advise to use Dishwasher magic. This is specially formulated to remove such build up and prevent it from returning, quickly. It leaves behind a barrier that will prevent the minerals from sticking. Click Here to purchase this good cleaner online, if you choose.

This will correct the issues you are experiencing.

    • Additionally; Be sure to check the port holes located on the sprayer arms inside this unit. You can use a large tooth pick or a similar probe to clear out any debris that may exist in the small water ports on these arms. This will increase the velocity of flow.

Can I just run vinegar through the system, i.e. pour one cup of vinegar into the dishwaher

The vinegar bath will not achieve optimal results. That particular compound is only good for mold removal, and not so good for dissolving calcium. It is also very pungent in order. I only recommend the vinegar solution for mold and bacteria issues.

    hi there,

Can I do the same thing or at least help things out by running vinegar through the dishwasher?
    Thanks

As I stated in my most recent post, The vinegar treatment will not work as efficiently as the formulated cleaner i have recommended, however, you can use the vinegar bath, if you wish. It will temporarily remove some of the build up, but not all. The calcium will return. Plain vinegar will not leave behind the protective barrier. The barrier left behind by the cleaner I recommended will prevent the minerals from sticking to the hoses and inside of the unit, more efficiently.

THe dishwasher is not cleaning properly. Dishwasher is about 5 yrs old. Have put rinsaid through and run a dishwasher cleaner through too and still not cleaning thoroughly. Any ideas?

that is a common issue,, make sure the screens below the spray arm is clean,, then take the spray arm off and clean it out good, top one also,, run the dishwasher (empty) with white vinegar and bleach, after run it through a rinse cycle to clean it out again,, it starts doing that after the build up of food and detergent,, sometimes it is necessary to have someone take it out and clean all of the hoses and pumps

Bottom of my Bosch dishwasher not cleaning dishes, top tray OK have cleaned / taken apart

Carefully inspect the lower spray arm for a crack or separation.
Also inspect the holes in the spray arm that may be stopped up with debris.
Remove and clean the filter in the front center of the tub.
Set the spray arm at the 12 o'clock position and start the washer. After 30 seconds open the door and check the position of the spray arm. Do thi several times to confirm the spray arm is rotating.

Maytag MBDF550Aww upper spray arm doesn't spin.

Cleaning the filter was the right thing to try.
Since you don't see cracks/breaks on the spray arm and it appears that it is spinning freely, I doubt that replacing the spray arm will fix your problem.
If your dishwasher is several years old, your problem is likely a failing pump motor, but before you swap that out, check that the impeller is not damaged. Good Luck!

Dirty dishes

You need to take the spray arm off of the bottom and get down to the filter: there's probably food trapped in the filter somewhere, not able to drain out and it keeps recycling onto the dishes at each cycle. Good luck!

check for leaks where the the top rack plugs into the rear. it might not be sealing. If your unit has the ability to change the top rack height check in the other position and see if it works. In my Samsung (Bosch in disguise) model The tube to the top rack plugs into one of two holes in the rear, depending which rack position I use. Something covers the hole not in use. Bosch uses two seperate pumps for washing and draining. So I don't think the pump could go partially bad. (This happens in other brands when the solenoid gets stuck between pump out and recirculate)
