Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

How do I mount a MasterCool evaporative cooler in place of my 4-sided cooler on the roof. I understand I need to use a ''leg kit'' and a roof damper kit. But how do I put it in place, get the legs on and all anchored down?

SOURCE: AC pad not fully getting saturated with water

1. Make sure the pump is getting plenty of water.

2. Make sure the pump is working.

3. Check the pvc pipe with drip holes are not plug. (above the pads )

4. Check the pads directional arrow that should be facing up. When pads are initially installed you can see arrows on the pads. The arrows should be in the up direction. That will allow the pads to get saturated more efficiently.

I hope these steps help you.

SOURCE: New Mastercool pads smell bad

The cellulose pads in a mastercool are glued together and usually the adhesive is what you smell. It may take a while for it to go away. Strange as it may seem, as the pads get more mineralization and you use it more the smell will go away. Do not use a cooler for your whole house without plenty of exhaust through a window or an updux. Coolers work best when there is plenty of freely moving air.

SOURCE: I have a Mastercool Evaporative cooler and had the

Several of us add scented fabric softener at start-up each year, and later add a bar of ivory soap. I also have an in-line 'scale eliminator' and an anode inside , as well as a purge pump, which changes out all the water every 8-12 hours. These things combine to keep fresh water in the cooler, and suspend minerals. With clean pads, that should keep foul smells away.

I moved into a place that has a MasterCool Evaporative Cooler on the roof. The ownstairs is quite comfortable so I really only need to cool the 2nd story.... it seems as if all the cold air settles...

jbrown - Hot air rises, Cold air falls. If you have ceiling fans upstairs, turn them on to run counterclockwise at highest speed you can stand. Make sure all the windows are closed upstairs. The ceiling fans will help to keep the cool air upstairs and pull some from downstairs.

If you don't have ceiling fans, invest in a box type fan that you can place at the head of the stairs (that's the top of the stairs) run it on HIGH and it will act like an exhaust fan, by pulling cool air upstairs. It may take a while, but it will help cool the upstairs to some degree.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Best way is to get a sheetmetal shop inyour area to make one for you.. Give them the exact size of the opening and then tell them you want a 3/4" flange all the way around and make sure the duct connection is what you need.. Let us know if you need anything else.. please vote.

Evaporative cooler, flap on roof will not open?

Most rooftop evaporative coolers use a gravity activated damper called a barometric damper. They do not use electricity and can often be found in the ductwork that bridges the cooler to the roof.

Look for a metal plate on the front of the ductwork held on by two screws. Remove that and you should be able to remove the damper to service it or replace it. You can find replacement evaporative cooler dampers online if need be.

We have a Mastercool II & it was installed ~ 3

The pads you need are at least 8 inches thick. If you have the contractor model, then the pads will be 12 inches thick.
Find a distributor in your town that sells cooler parts, if they dont have them, some of the big home improvement stores carry the pads for your cooler.
Make sure you are using a bleedoff or a dump pump to eliminate the hard water out of the cooler. If you keep those pads clean, they wiil last for many years.

My husband wants to install a mastercool evaporative cooler in a building that is completely open on one side. We live in AZ.

It will work fine as a spot cooler if he has direct airflow on him, otherwise it wont do much for cooling the building.

I have two roof mounted master cools, I was told that these are no longer made. Is this true?

Yes it is true they are no longer made. But parts are still available for them as many HVAC units can swap parts. and you do not even have to go OEM to fix it if it is broken. A lot of Newer techs do not know how to work on these units
