Hi tatnle,

This is due to a hardware failure, the scanner assembly and the formatter board will need to be replaced.

Try doing a hard or reset or nvram:
1. Turn the printer off
2. Hold down the enter and the * button
3. Reboot the printer while holding the buttons and hold until permanent storage is displayed. Let go of the buttons and wait for the ready message on the display.

if this does not work contact hp 1800-334-5144.

Do I need a new scanner bulb?

It sounds very much as if the scanner is faulty/failed. The warming-up phase is to ensure that the scanner lamps output is steady, making for consistent scans. Usually this is just a simple timing circuit.
Having once tried to fix a broken flatbed scanner myself, I found that obtaining the correct replacement lamp for it was impossible - I think inkjet printers and scanners are considered "consumable". You may be better off buying a new printer. Alternatively, if it keeps producing good prints, consider buying a separate scanner. HTH

Error code 5010 green & orange lights flashing printer will not operate

Error 5010 is a scanner error, either not warming up properly, or lamp or sensor error. Either way, the scanner will need to be replaced. I can check for you and get a part number and price if you like.

"scanner error 5 turn of then on" reads on the display screen

Sorry but I have a bad news. Scanner error 5 or 8 means that the scanner lamp is not able to move and if it does it cannot go all the way. The printer need service, probably a new scanner. The repair might be too complicated and expensive (over $250) I suggest to get a new one. HP can provide a deal to recycle the unit and give you a credit, maybe not a lot but its something.

I am getting scanner error 5 massage on hp 2840

A tech needs to look at it. It could be as easy as just reseating the 4 wire bundle connector that comes off the scanner and connects to the formatter.
But, in any event a tech has to check it out.

Scanner bulb warnning

Hello,

The 'scanner warming up' error is caused by dirty scanner optics. What happens is the scanner initializes the lamp and starts reading the scanner pickup waiting for the light to get to a certain brightness level. When the optics get dirty from dust or smoke then the light getting to the scanner pickup is reduced so the unit thinks the scanner bulb has not reached the correct brightness so it says wait. What you will need to do is dis-assemble the top portion and clean the scanner optics. We have a step by step guide to do this procedure posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/hp-laserjet-3330-scanner-warming-up-error/ This should get you back going again.

I hope this helps you out, if so please rate our solution.

Won't print; making a funny crunching noise; dialog screen says "scanner bulb warming up"

This is a problem in scanner section on your printer. You need to disassembly the printer and pull out the scanner section.Open the cover of scanner section and you'll see the mirrors inside. You need to clean the ash from these mirrors using cloth which leaves no hairs.
WARNING! If you don't have a technical skills don't try to do anything.
If this not help you need to replace the scanner section.

?Scanner failure? error message

Usually this type of error message pops up when the scanner lamp isn?t warming up properly. This is what you should do: 1. Check if the lamp is on. 2. Unplug the scanner?s power supply and plug it back in. Try connecting it diretly to the wall. 3. If that doesn?t work: a. Unplug the unit?s power supply. b. Press ?cancel? and left arrow while reconnecting the unit. c. Release the buttons when the printer starts up. 4. Try scanning again. 5. If it doesn?t work, have it serviced.
