Question about Dell Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
I had my Norton 360 renewed and since the NOrton people installed it...my PC takes a longer time to start up...I have about 65 percent disk space. Could you help?
I remove Norton from more PCs then I install it on. It is an very intrusive suite of protection, and is not compatible with Windows XP age PCs, due to the size this software has grown to, over the last few years. Call Norton and get a refund, if you find my answer useful. I use a set of programs that I update manually. I am not an agent or advertiser for the products on this list. It changes depending on compatibility with the system in front of me.
1) Spyware Blaster(Free) Open it, update it, enable all disabled protection, and then close it, you're done. This one does NOT run in the background, after you close it. Every couple of days.
2) Malwarebytes Antimalware(Free) Open this, run a scan. It will update prior to the scan. When it is done, you can have it quarantine and remove all problems it finds, and then close it. At LEAST once a week.
3) CCleaner(Free) This is used to remove the crud from your system. I DO NOT RECOMMEND using the Registry Cleaner it has. This uses a destructive method of fixing registry problems, by deleting things, and WILL trash your system. Under TOOLS, it has an Uninstaller, and a Startup listing, which is better than 'msconfig' that comes with windows.
4) Panda Cloud Antivirus (Free) Panda Cloud Antivirus will check your system for viruses on it's own and will update and check any viruses with the Pandas servers in the cloud, automatically.
Also, a better disk defragmenter:
5) Auslogics Disk Defrag.
The first three need to be updated manually, in the free version, so be aware of the check boxes, and settings that try to get you to enable or start the 'FREE' Trial on these. Any of these programs that you are unsure of, can be removed, it's your call. But #'s 1,2 and 4, would be the minimum you need for protecting your system, along with keeping an eye on what you click, where you go, and paying very close attention to the way your system responds to your mouse clicks online, and be aware of what causes popups on your PC. Google is your friend.
I do them one at a time, or all at once, but I DO do them religiously, as I am taking the responsibility of keeping my system clean and efficient, to save money.
I hope this helps.

I'm sorry but that is typical of Norton. It is a very heavy and memory hungry program.
When it start it loads up all it needs to keep the computer safe. For example internet security, antivirus, update etc.
Norton is renownd for this and also taking over the PC.
The only thing i could suggest is adding more system memory to the computer so it will perform a bit faster.
