I have the same computer and had the same problem. It was caused by dust buildup under the fan on the heat sing blades. The computer will freeze and stop responding if it gets too hot. Open the computer up and clean out the fan and heat sink blades.

Hi Otca7

i see you have been having some Vista / Sleep problems, and the latest suggests it is your power settings on your network card, correct?

to access this, you can Right Click on Computer, if you have managed to track that icon down ( it is on right column of the Start Button)
Select Manage from this menu

when that Manage Computer window opens, locate Device manager on the left hand Navigation Tree.

look for the network adapter in this listing.
double click on it when you find it.

Click on the tab labelled Power Management

Untick or tick the boxes as appropriate:

Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, (on laptops, best have set to on, desktops can be set off, so it is not disabled when it goes to sleep)

But it is this next tick box that i think you might have ticked:
"Allow this device to wake the computer"
ensure this tickbox is not checked!

that should hopefully fix your problem, if indeed it is due to the network adapter waking the PC from sleep.

please rate if this helped you.
and let me know if you want more help.

Microsoft Lifecam - Broken up picture when using the webcam

The problem was being caused by the wireless USB adaptor. When I disconnected the adaptor the webcam picture came good. I plugged the adaptor into a different USB port on the machine and no interference. I don't have any explanation for why on one USB port I get the interference and on another I don't get any interference. I am happy to live with it like it is if it works.

My wireless light won't light up when the switch is on.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya!

One of the first things I would recommend is a system restore. This means restoring the computer (rolling it back) to a date when the wireless worked properly.

You can do this by going to start, all programs, accessories, system tools and clicking on system restore.

Choose a date when it worked properly.

Follow the instructions to achieve a succesful restore.

If this doesn't work, then it is a hardware issue and will need to be checked by a technician.

I can recommend an alternative to paying tech fees.

You can go to an electronics store and purchase a wireless adaptor for about $49.99. These fit in the USB and would be an alternative solution.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP onto my computer and when I did it didnt recognize the driver for network adaptor. How do i get that adaptor driver?

Go to the Internet site for that adapter's manufacturer, and locate the drivers for that exact driver. Then download it and install it, and it should work fine.

It is normally reccommended that the adaptor goes straight into the socket so check the faulty one to see if it does rather than being plugged into a power strip.

Hope this helps

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Getting Vista to use my wireless internet connection correctly

One question, is... do you need to enter a KEY or is this an open network?
I have found that with a new computer, you need to do the following to connect.
If this is an open network, then leave your router running, and just do a cold boot with your computer.
IE: Shut down, count to 10, and then re-start.
You may also need to connect (by network cable) to your router and make sure the wireless is turned on.
Most new rountes start with the wireless disabled.
