Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore front load washer 80 series. I took the whole thing apart to find out the coupler was bad. When I put it back together it will not spin. I can hear the motot try to kick in. I have looked at some diagrams but their pictures are not very clear and I have found none that shows inside the gear box or ?( transmission). Is there some clear diagrams that shows the inside. There are some parts that I am not sure if I got right, the plastic pieces and some of the clips and washers. Thanks

Yes I have seen those. The problem is they do not show the inside of the gear box. The pictures are not very clear. Some of the parts in the gear box ?(transmission) are plastic and I'm not sure if I have them in correctly. Also there are some, as they call it, washers that are convex or cup like that is held by a horseshoe clip. I don't know if it goes upside down or not. I hate to throw the washer away because I screwed up and tore it apart when it only needed a $20 part and 30 minutes to fix. I have asked the repair shops around town and they say it would be cheaper to buy a new one than it would be for them to fix this one. I know all the inside parts are good because it worked before I tore it apart only to find out it wasn't needed.

if it will not drain or spin it is a bad lid switch,if it drains but will not spin it is the motor coupler, tip it back and look between the motor and trans that is where the coupler is located-mike

Kenmore 80 series not agitating

Most likely you have a bad motor coupler. If you open the console and remove the two brass clips, this will let the front, sides and top all come off as you tilt it forward. At the botom center, you will find two metal clips holding the pump on. Remove. You will find 2 screws holding similar clips holding the motor on. Removed. On the back of the motor, is your coupler. Replace. Then re-assemble.

Kenmore washer series 70 shakes wildly during spin during cycle

I have the same kenmore and have experience this before. It is unbalanced. Get a spirit level to check for balance. To rebalance, empty the washer (so it's not heavy), lean over the washer and grab the back, tilt it forward and the auto balancing legs should reposition themselves. Re-check for balance using the spirit level. If still out, adjust the front feet of the washer by screwing the legs up or down (using a wrench). This will cure the problem (unless you have a very unbalanced load of towels for instance). Good luck

Kenmore Washer-coupling replaced-

Be sure that when you replaced the coupler, that you tapped on the rear (transmission) coupler. Take a long extension and a 9/16" socket and tap it until the shaft is flush with the inside of the coupler. Also, we have found that sometimes shaved rubber from the old coupler isnt rubbing or fell down in the area. Also, if you have it back out, be sure your new coupler doesnt show wear already. That would be an indication of a bad transmission, basket drive, or drum block.
