Question about HP PSC 2210 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have a HP PSC All-In-One-Printer. This printer is about 6 years old. My problem is after initialization and no date in the display it makes a noise for about 5 minutes. When the noise stops, in the message in the display says scan failure, turn the power off then on again when I haven't scanned anything. I've taken out both cartridges and replaced them, completing disconnected the printer from my PC and reconnected and get the same result.

Hello,

disconnect the printer from your computer, uninstall the printer software/program from your computer's control panel, restart your computer, reinstall the printer software and try again. If that still does not solve the problem, then you will have to follow a plan B option.

You will have to download Hp diagnostic utility on your your computer, install it on your computer and it will help to detect and solve the problem.

Visit the hp link below, read all the information on the page and download the diagnostic tool from the page.

Good luck.

I have used your suggestions and I still have the same problem. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it same result. The PSC 2210 is a stand alone printer, it doesn't need to be installed on my computer to work.

    Any more suggestions?

SCANNER FAILURE

The issue is with hardware of the printer.
Scan feature is most expensive and sensitive part of the printer.
I suggest you to contact HP support. If the printer is under warranty you may get a replacement printer or else they may give you a better option.

If not on warranty you may try this workaround:

  1. With unit off, press the 'Cancel' (pink button) and 'Color' (green button).
  2. This will start the printer in a diagnostic mode. Press '1' to run the diagnostics.
  3. Press 'Enter' or other keys as directed by the display prompts. When you don't know what to press, the 'Enter' key usually works. Some of the keys called for (for example 'Plus' and 'Minus') are not on every psc 2210 keyboard. They are mapped to one of the "directional" keys just above the numeric keypad area next to the 'Enter' key. Keep trying keys till one works.
  4. After all the diagnostics, the display will either go blank or display 'Initializing...' . Wait 10-20 seconds to make sure it isn't doing anything else then press the 'On' key.
The printer should start without the scanner error and the grinding/chattering noise.

Leave the printer on because the next power cycle brings the chattering noise back.
But, when it does, the procedure above seems to fix it every time.

Run through the "setup" menu on the printer's LCD screen, and make sure that you have selected 'ENGLISH' menus (not something like Korean or Ukrainian or Hungarian).

Any printer-software on your PC *cannot* change this setting in the printer.

Scanning problems. Could not scan into old Dell Laptop anymore. (Motherboard bad on Dell). Now, new computer Apple, and tried to scan. Says it is scanning into HP Photo program, which is not on this new...

Try these. 1 in applications find image capture, make sure printer is conected and on, launch image capture and see if it finds the scanner. 2 go to the HP website and see if there is software to download.

I HAVE A HP PSC 1215 WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR FIVE YEARS, RECENTLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT WILL NOT PRINT IN BLACK DESPITE HAVING A REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGE. THE COLOUR WORKS WITHOUT BLACK PORTIONS.

Time for a new printer. All inkjets are made to just last 3-4 years. Yours is a 5-6 year old. Good replacements can be had to $100 or less.

Remove and check right cartridge (black ink)

I have discovered how to perform a full reset of the HP PSC 1610, which clears all the internal memory, thereby fixing the "remove and check right cartridge" problem.
To perform a full reset of the HP PSC 1610:
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Press and hold the OK and CANCEL buttons on the front panel keypad.
3. While still holding the buttons, plug the power cord back in. Continue to hold the buttons for two seconds, and then release them.
4. After a few seconds, the screen will display the message “Deriv Clear” confirming that the reset is done.

I have discovered that the HP PSC 1610 all-in-one printer has a hidden diagnostic mode, which lets you do several interesting things.

To enter the hidden diagnostic mode of the HP PSC 1610:
1. tap both arrow keys simultaneously.
2. tap the left arrow key.
3. tap the OK key.
4. At this point, you have a choice to make. If you want to enter the "Service" menu, tap the left arrow key. If, on the other hand, you want to get into the "Underware" menu, tap the right arrow key.

There is a menu option in the "Underware" menu called "printer-mech button tap", from which you can initiate any of HP's "tap tests," so called because, on the early HP printers whose onboard user interface was limited to two physical buttons, you would tell the printer which diagnostic test you wanted it to perform by holding down one of the buttons while tapping the other button a certain number of times. In the HP literature, the various diagnostic tests that the printer can do are named according to the number of button taps required to initiate the test. Hence, HP might refer to "tap test #6", "tap test #9", and so forth.
I am not sure what all of the various tap tests do, but I would imagine there is probably a tap test that resets the internal counter responsible for making the printer reject the cartridges.

"remove and check cartridge"

I have had this problem every time I remove a black cartridge and reinsert it. What has worked for me is to confuse the printer. go to the menu, go to maintenance, go to clean print heads, this should initiate the printing of a page and it will revert to the usual date in the window, and/or try realignment, should do the same thing. Good Luck, maybe next time we should not buy an HP?
