When setting up xr8600 is it best to start mains and monitors master at 0DB?

1. Turn the main and monitor volumes all the way down (off). Plug a cd player into channel 9/10 and play a track of music of your liking. With the main/monitor volumes still off, adjust the gain on 9/10 until the clip light turns on, then back it down until the clip light just turns off. Put the channel volume at 12 o' clock.
2. With the music still playing, turn up the mains to the desired listening level first, and then adjust the graphic eq until the music sounds good in the room. Remember or mark the position of the volume control. Do not use the channel eq on 9/10 for music that has been mastered properly, leave the eq flat. Once this step is completed then you have now set the main eq.
3. Repeat the same for monitors. Turn off the main volume and then bring up the monitor main volume to the desired level first, then set eq. Now your monitor eq is set properly. Remember or mark the position of the monitor volume.
4. Set up microphone - plug a mic into channel 1 with volume all the way down. Speak or sing into the microphone and adjust the GAIN until you see the clip light, then back down a litttle on the gain. Put the monitor and main volumes back up to the mark from step 2. Now adjust the volume and monitor send on the mic channel to the desired loudness first before adjusting the mic channel eq. Use subtractive eq method to minimize distortion and feedback. ...i.e. if the mic is bassy then turn down the lows, do not ADD highs. If the mic needs bass, turn down the highs.

Sansui au9500

You have an old model there! A very tricky problem too! This website might help:
http://amp8.com/sansui/9500/au9500-b.htm

If it's not as loud in one channel it would be easy to suss out. But if both channels are weak that's a problem. As you can see from that website all the channels are individual driven, so it's unlikely that both channels would go down.
One thing you could try is some Servisol in the volume control, particularly if it crackles or cuts out when you turn it.
Normally if the sound goes down in both channels you look for something common to both. But it looks like the only thing common is either the volume control or perhaps the power supply?
If it is the power supply board! On that website you will see a board with fuses on it. In the centre of it is a large silver transistor marked C680. Standing for 2SC680. If that is faulty it could weaken the power to the amp. So if it is on both channels I would have a go at replacing that.

Turning off Closed Caption

Are you using a cable/satellite box or just basic cable service?
When you go to the menu what options become available to you?

If the following options are present-
picture
smartlock
setup
cc

If not try to press both the volume buttons on the front of the TV at the same time and see if the above options become available.
If so use the channel down button on the front of the tv to scroll to "cc"

Once CC is highlighted use the volume + button until it says CC off.

If these menu options don't become available please reply what options are shown.

Good Luck.

How do you remove closed captioning from a Durabrand DWT2405 24'' TV with a comcast universal remote control?

jess_in_tene, Comcast, or for that matter most other universal remote controls are limited in their capabilities to control other devices! They will at best have only the basic three functions: ON/OFF, VOLUME up/down, Channel up/down, and maybe channel change by numeric keypad entry. Nothing More! The COMCAST set top cable box sends the CCs to the TV regardless. It does not have the capability of "striping-off" the CC information from the signal that enters the TV. You will need to find out who turned-on CC mode for the TV and WHAT remote they used to do it with. Please note that some TV's go directly to CC mode when the TV is in the MUTE mode. Hope this was of some help. 12fixlouie Please rate this response on fixya if you found it to be helpful. Bye for now.

I am using vista business edition.if i connect the pc to an external stereo speaker i am getting only one channel sound out put.i changed the speaker and checked.for other speaker also same problem i

Sometime on your right speaker there is left/right control, check that, double click on the speaker (bottom right) and see if the slide balance selector above the volume level is one way or the other. then go to your control panel and click on Sound and Audio Devices click on the speaker volume and if that's ok then check next to that is Advance, click there and in the drop down arrow box make sure Desktop Stereo Speakers is displayed, apply and ok. And finally, uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers (choosing the correct operating system)

Black box on bottom of screen when viewing a program. Box disappears during commericals and when changing channels or adjusting volume, then reappears

Hmm, sounds like maybe the closed captioning option is on? Check your remote for a button labeled "CC" and press it to see you that fixes it or go into customer menu and make sure closed captioning is off. If you have a cable or satellite box they may be set for CC as well and need to be set to off.

With my starview 3 all of sudden my sound is distorted

To get back sound channels ect just select the channel in question press menu,
select installation, select manual scan, click ok on down frequency.
It'll now scan for channels when its finished exit back to normal
tv viewing screen go to the end of your channel listing and the desired channel will be there with sound.
This can be done on any channel with no sound by just selecting that channel following the instructions above.
Hope this helps

Akai lct2785ta Sound Problem

Bear with me...I will start talking about CC, but I think my solution may work for you, too. I noticed that every time I turned on Closed Captioning, when I changed channel, it went off.

I went into the on-screen set-up, and turned on the CC there. Now, when I turn OFF CC, then change channels, it comes back on.

So, it may just have to do with your set up. Go there and set the default sound to stereo and see if that fixes it.

Good luck.
