Question about Whirlpool Freezers
Greetings: I have a 4-5 yr old Whirlpool up-right Freezer - Model EVL201NXRQ04. If it matters -From time to time the Door has been left open .... But always recuperate
Of late my problem was noticed/discovered when the warm alarm sounded. When I looked, it was warm and things were beginning to thaw - so it had been this way for some time. I then exposed the coils and found them totally in-cased in ice. I then used a Hair drier on low and thawed out the coil(s).
Being that the kids have a habit of leaving the door open I figure it was them again. About 3 weeks later it happened again where it froze up and continuously running and the kids were not around. This time I checked the Defrost-Heater and found it dead... So I replaced it.
Now the Freezer still continues to run and run and run.... Every thing is frozen and cold.... It will turn off if I manually reach in and turn the Thermostat down - then even at the lower temp it will kick on after a while... It also appears like as I set the therm lower and lower theat becomes the new base ling for the refrigaer ature Running and running.
The next thing that appears to be next to replace is the Thermostat at amount of $106.00. Is there any other areas that I am over looking Or should consider ? Being the compressor is working, the only other parts that I can think of is the Thermostat, Defrost Timer , and Bi-metal Defrost thermostat.
Also, while it is running I noticed both Sides - [ on the outside ] of the Freezer very warm.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Lucky to get five years out of any white good
time to do the math
replacement cost of failed components
benefits of a new up-right Freezer

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Sounds like your defrost timer has packed it in you need to fit another timer to it and everything will be as good as new.
by turning the timer you have forced it to run nothing to worry about. It has just stopped in the defrost position. What you have done is the first diagnostic test a tech would have performed. I hope this has helped you out.
